The person with the QPR West London flag was actually me.
I was there with my Fulham supporting mate who had a St George flag with Fulham W10.
We bought the tickets from a tout outside Ballymore. We were alone in enemy territory with all the Aussies. They were giving us grief, but we laughed it off and ended up having a good laugh with them.
Just after Guscott’s try, the mobile cameraman was right near us, and one of the Aussies shouted to him that these Poms want to say hello to their mums back home. The cameraman started filming and the red light went on.
We then found out later that we were shown on Grandstand and all the news programmes back home.
Savile was left alone when he was alive as he would’ve brought down a big number of very prominent people.
It was well known within the circles what he was up to. John Lydon got banned from the BBC for saying he’d like to kill Savile in a BBC radio interview which was never aired.
Regarding the second & third kits, I think they should always be hoops. Preferably Black & Red for our second kit. For the third kit, they could put forward 3 designs every season for the fans to vote on.
Ricky Ponting electing to field in the second Ashes test at Edgebaston in 2005 has got to be up there. He obviously thought the England batsmen would be demoralised after losing at Lords in the first test.
England racked up over 400 on day 1. Without Ponting’s error of judgement, we’d have probably lost the Ashes that glorious summer.
Can’t believe nobody has mentioned the great Dave Thomas.
I was only 10 when he left for Everton. I was on holiday in Ireland, and I was absolutely gutted.
Edit: Clive Wilson, quite rightly so, getting a few mentions. As a pair, him and David Bardsley were the best pair of full backs we’ve had in my time. They were very very good.
