mixed feelings - on one hand he’s the dressing room leader and great influence on the rest of the squad. on the flip side he’s coming to the end of his career and injuries are massively disruptive both to his form and to our defensive lineup.
as the clubs highest earner would that money be better spent elsewhere?
no team will go down with 50 points. i reckon 45 points is about the line. top teams have won more games this season so less points shared around by lower teams.
one more win or a couple of draws should see us crawl over the line
time is right now for QPR to start making decisions with an eye on next season. there's no longer any point playing loanees and those in their final year ahead of others who will be here next season.
I'm not saying don't play Edwards, Dunne, Yang, Cook but we should start to taper them out. Marti needs to use the remaining games to make sure we start next season better than we started this one.
In terms of Edwards v Morrison then assume Marti will keep starting Edwards while there's still have an outside chance of making the playoffs. Same with Yang.
When the playoffs become out of reach then hope/assume he'll go with Morrison instead.
I think there are some parallels to Marti and us here. We began the season playing how Marti would like his teams to play rather than how we needed to play to stay up (last season). For a number of reasons (injuries/luck/poor performances) it back-fired and we had to revert once again play for survival.
Now we've built a platform for him to try again and he will, with an almost full squad available. Going to be interesting to see how it all pans out from here on in.
we've somehow survived defence vs attacks scenarios this season mainly due to Cook's organisational skills, reading of the game and last ditch tackles. For example Bristol City away.
unfortunately we won't survive long like this without him playing, example Swansea away.
special mention to our fans for the moment during our stoke at home game where we’re bottom of the league, losing 1-0 and most of the ground break into the ‘marti cifuentes ….’ song as a warning to the board to not do anything hasty.
some dire performances there - saito and smyth were bad but Andersen really needs to come off at half time - he’s running around like a (slow) banshee but the moment he gets the ball he immediately gives it to the nearest city player
