Cameron Burgess : A major upgrade on Harry Darling ‘News behind the news’
at 10:37 17 Jun 2025

I can fully relate to both Dr. W and sons of omri's posts.

It's been mentioned several times, based on reported comments from within the club. Alan Sheehan has stated, how if possible, he wants the new signings to be at the club, come the start of the 'new season training' in early July.

That extra month of learning about each other and our tactical approach (compared to our usual last minute 'desperation signings') could help negate, or certainly reduce, the 'new boys' lack of familiarity effect. Helping us to start the season more as a unit and ready for the trials and tribulations to come.

I've been wracking my grey matter, but it's hard to remember a more positive (dare I say exciting) pre-season for the club for many seasons...(2011 to 2015?) I seem to be spending a fair bit of my spare time, searching for articles/comments about the Swans, such is the uplifting effect it has on me.

The quality and 'professional planning' that is evidently going into our recruitment now, is like 'night and day' compared to our K & L ownership years.

Kudos and gratitude to our new focused and ambitious board. While they don't have football experience themselves, they have invested and brought in that experience. I could never understand how under K & L, a Championship club didn't appear to have any co-ordinated recruitment policy. Recruitment is the life-blood of any football club, let alone one in the Championship.

Letting Ben and Harry's contract situation develop as they did, is a prime example of that lack of professionalism. What efficiently run business encourages major assets worth millions, just walk out the door? Incompetence 'R' Us eh?

Football is a small world in the EFL and club/players talk. Any conversation about Swansea City will only be positive currently, helping quality players like Cameron Burgess to choose us, over rival bids from perceived bigger clubs.

Wow...It's like a breath of fresh air mun boys!

The Good Doctor said... "Wait until we've played ten games before coming to any conclusions."

Personally, I most certainly share the positives, surprise and genuine enthusiasm for what our new board have done for the club since February. However, introducing 5, or possibly (due to what Keith is hinting at) up to 8 new players, being brought into the squad, it may well take some time for them to gel as a team?

With so many being introduced into the club, this coming season could see us start quite slowly. But as the new intake, learn/adapt to the current squad, we could, just like a train, start slowly, but begin moving into top gear come November onwards?

I was both shocked and gutted yesterday when reading about Mark.

I agree with everything that's been said about him on this thread.

Although not born in Neath, he made Neath his home for a number of years and used to drink in my local pub, the Green Dragon, where he was a very popular character indeed.

As posters have said, he was a skilful monster on the field, but a most likeable man socially.

Not only did he represent Wales in Rugby Union, but also in Rugby League too, where he was equally respected. Passing at only 59 is a most untimely age to leave his family.

I wish nothing but the best for his family and friends.

RIP Mark.

Superb Liam boy!

Creating...and scoring this excellent goal! One that will live long in his memory no doubt.

At the time, all I saw was him impressively guiding the ball with his head into the top corner, his involvement in the build up passed me by, until seeing this video.

Liam has come on well during this season, I hope he can continue with his progress next season to benefit the team, the club and persuade some of the fans, that have been generally unconvinced by his qualities.

Sheehan deal offered to be head coach at Swansea City
at 12:39 27 Apr 2025

Wow, I missed this yesterday, what with everything going on (cardiff).

Just read it, all bleary eyed after a 'couple of Stellas' last night.

Great reporting Liam lad, and what a way to end a memorable weekend.

Yes, the Swans lost narrowly, but as many posters have agreed, our second half performance deserved at least a draw. If only we had a prolific striker (or two?).

If Sheehan accepts our contract offer, as NC says, we'll be ahead of things, going into a season with a Head Coach who will know what he needs player recruitment wise, to push on next season. The worry of course is whether he will get that level of strengthening?

As well as already signed Melker Widell, I'm hearing from a good source, how we have two more Scandinavian players lined up for this Summer.

'Caps doffed' to Liam and Keith.

Well worth us peppering their nervous third choice 'keeper with shots today.

As the INDY report says, he let in 4 v Blackburn last week!

🔴 Likely candidates for the Swans job
at 13:27 15 Apr 2025

For many years I've broken down a season into groups of 5 matches.

5 matches x 9 clumps = 45 matches + 1.

Attaining 9 points from each of those 9 game groups, gave us 81 points + 1 more match. Which most seasons would equate to automatic promotion, or, most certainly, seriously challenging for it.

Sheehan has been in charge for 9 games (20% of our season). Turn the maths around, and say 9 matches x 5 groups + 1 extra.

To date he's achieved 17 points from his 9 matches in charge. 17 x 5 = 85 points. With one last game to play.

So based on those figures, after playing 42 games in a season, we'd have gained 77.6 points to date. Putting us a point ahead of Sunderland in fourth place.

I know...for clubs at our level of financial clout, up against parachute funded, newly Premier League relegated clubs, those stats don't always pan out in the way described.

However, you have to say, if we'd only dispensed with Williams earlier, and achieved ONLY TWO WINS in January, we'd now all be talking excitedly about the prospect of a Play/Off ending season.

The margins are that close.

I too, like many have posted, was reluctant to commit to Sheehan taking the role. Was this a new manager's 'bounce' etc. But I think he's most certainly convinced a most sceptical fanbase, based on recent years' performances, that he surely deserves at least a year's contract?

Clostridium Difficile
at 11:15 15 Apr 2025

I've just been reading how Clostridium Difficile, often referred to as C.diff, is a type of bacteria that can cause a major bowel infection.

And now, with the 'blooooturds' attempting for the 17th time to thoroughly embarrass themselves by taking Nantes to court yet again over the tragic Sala situation, the question needs asking. How don't they realise what all this is doing to their already tattered reputation? It only reinforces what the football world already knows about them and their contemptible attitudes and despicable methods.

So, it's official...it's even confirmed medically! C.diff are shit!

C.diff will be my new abbreviation for the scumbags from now on gents.

It's interesting (I hope?) to identify how many siblings, or relatives, have played for the Swans down the years. Perhaps this will offer a reminder to some?

I too have fond memories of the Screen brothers down at the Vetch.

It was a time when my father, grandfather, uncle and I, used to watch from the open (Town) end.

After watching the first half there and, if we were attacking the Double Decker goal in the second half, with a sparse crowd and few, if any stewards, we'd wander onto the North Bank, standing in line with the penalty box, to watch the second half there.

The mention of Tony Screen's sad passing, has brought back so many memories of those times. Thank you Tony, for the excitement and entertainment you helped provide on matchdays for a young lad back in the day. The love for the club you and other Swans players helped to inspire in me, has created a life-long bond.

RIP YJB

My son was in Uni ( UWE) in Bristol, living in a HMO house with twin Bristol Rovers fans.

When it was announced recently that Gorringe was going to be our CEO, they texted my son. To say how Gorringe, while at an executive position at Rovers, tried to have a stand built, but without applying for Planning Permission.

They said Good Luck having him making decisions.

Pushing Key forward into midfield, was exactly what I was saying to my son on Saturday evening.

Key has reasonable pace, likes going forward and I think, a decent engine too. In my opinion he'd be better in midfield than Fulton for example, who is simply 'wooden' nowadays and anonymous too much of the time. With MP-H having returned to Brentford, we have an option there as Key can play on both sides.

However, I'd also like to see Ginnelly given more chances too. So to contradict myself a little, perhaps there are too many vying for a midfield spot already?

Good wins
at 08:36 12 Mar 2025

Personally I hope the Riza sacking report is nothing but a rumour.

Let him stay, let him take them down...into the National League...or lower!!!

For them to lose at home, against a relegation rival last night, after taking the lead too, will be a crushing psychological defeat.

And have you seen their last 9 'run in' matches? They are all difficult in different ways. They surely are in real trouble now.

Hull, Derby and perhaps now Luton, have momentum. The Booooooturds don't.

Based on that though, we'll probably still need about 3 more wins (starting tonight?) to be mathematically safe?

RichardO,

I'm not sure (and I'm sorry) if you've answered this question before, but have you played or been involved in football at a decent level yourself?

You seem to identify specifics in play and formation that most of us don't see, unless it's blindingly obvious. I've supported the Swans for 62 years, but any match report I'd be asked to provide, would be very much more simplistic than yours.

I enjoy reading your comments and analysis they seem to be spoken about 'with knowledge and experience' and it helps me in future matches to 'see' what you've identified previously.
