We only had Danso on loan for a season - with an option to buy

He was signed mainly as cover at CB
He was a CB
Ralph played him mainly at RB
Ralph only played him 6 times in the league and a few in the cup
He wasn't very good at RB
He wasn't really very good at defending
He got sent off
He didn't do enough to justify us buying him, so he was sent back

This was all 5 1/2 years ago.
Different players mature and improve at different rates.
He was definitely not worth keeping after his season on loan with js

Watford sack Their Manager..SHOCK!!!
at 13:51 8 Oct 2025

He probably would have been sacked much sooner, if we had a proper 'keeper and had managed to twice hold on to a lead at their place 5 or 6 weeks back.

Apparently they got 7 points from their last 3 games as well !! WTF !!

Southampton At Derby County The Verdict
at 15:03 6 Oct 2025

Overly harsh on Manning. Yes he should have accepted it and got on with it, instead of arguing so much with the Lino, but so many others could have done so much netter. It was headed in from just inside the 6 yard box, so AMcC should have definitely come for it, instead of staying rooted to his line in the middle of goal. Perhaps he didn't want to take a whack ? It was bizarre, because he come off his line to catch or punch on many other occasions during the game. It was p1ss poor marking from our defence, especially Edwards - perhaps they were expecting AMcC to come and claim it ?

Apart from that McCarthy had a great game, bar a few distribution issues and Charles had one of his best games for us.

Sadly I have to mention Damion Downs.
How the fvck is he getting anywhere near our first team squad ?
His performance was embarrassing. Honestly, Ali Dia was better !!
He has no first touch, can't control it, can't time his jumps, can't head it and can't lay it off - let alone press, make a run, or have a shot.
When he did win a header, it went off his '50p head' to the wrong side of the pitch. The Saints fans sarcastically cheered when he eventually got 1 pass completed !! It was crazy that he was on the pitch and even crazier that WS kept him on til the end - perhaps out of stubbornness. Archer would have offered so much more.
We likened his performance to him being the last kid to be picked in a school football match. The players deliberately didn't pass to him because they know how sh1t he is and then very occasionally they would try to keep him interested by giving him a touch, which invariably meant us losing possession. Surely WS has learnt this by now - we can all see it.

5 Things About Derby
at 14:29 6 Oct 2025

1. Good job you didn't go to the Navigation pub you suggested on your Guide to Derby feature. I went past it on the way to the stadium and can confirm that the pub has closed down, but you can park your car there on Match Days for a Fiver. There is also a car wash in the car park.

2. They haven't won at home all season, so nothing really there to get them going.

3. Was in Block 47/48 and the stairs going up to the stands were very narrow, especially with 2 stewards standing there. No wonder it took ages to depart at the end. One at a time FFS.

4. Nice poster as you entered the Gents. Saints Fans: Thank you for travelling 168 miles for today's game. (or something like that)

5. We were driving, but I heard at HT that a few trains were cancelled, so hope everyone got back at a decent hour !!

Especially good when you consider that in the space of just 10 days, we have played away to Hull, Liverpool and Sheffield United.
.......and follow it up with an away game to Derby this weekend.

Genuine question, has Damion Downes ever actually been a professional footballer?
at 16:31 25 Sep 2025

On his showings so far, I don't really think he wants to be here.

He doesn't put much effort in
He hardly presses or chases back
He can't control the ball
He can't hold the ball up
He can't pass the ball
He doesn't know where the goal is - Wrexham(from a yard), Hull etc
He is still dining off that pre-season goal he scored in Spain
His body language suggests he has not integrated into the team
When Matsuki scored that wonder goal at Norwich, he didn't celebrate
(probably though oh fvck, a reserve has just scored and I haven't !!)
Didn't even smile when Charles got the equaliser v Liverpool

Hoping things will change pretty damn quick, but can only see him being dropped before being given further chances.

At least Ali Dia was an 'enthusiastic trier' when he got his chance !!

The gear he is currently in is called REVERSE - despite getting all the players he wanted / needed in the last window.

Wonderful character and ambassador for the game

He was married to cricket - as he once famously said

92 was a good innings. A sad loss for the sport.

There were 4 shots on target for him to save all game
The 1st he saved but that save turned into an assist for their attacker who...
Slotted home with their 2nd
The 3rd and 4th also ended up in the back of the net

It's a real shame that we couldn't convince our Newcastle bench warming England International Goalkeeper to represent us in the Championship this season !! (Or bought the Stoke 'Keeper).

We call Downs the new Ali Dia - but with less enthusiasm.

Great chance yesterday to get us back to 1-1 but missed the target.

Ironically Goztepe beat Besiktas 3-0 on Friday night and our striker Juan, scored the 1st goal.

Long chat with Hull fan
at 13:51 21 Sep 2025

Still (allegedly) got all the players he wanted in the transfer window, so there really is no excuse. We should now be playing the way he wants, with his players.

What we actually get is Martinesque tippy tappy possession based fannying around until we get closed down and then it is hoofed towards a small or incapable front man and we lose possession. Repeat......

Yesterday we showed glimpses of what we can do with some good possession and passing, but as is often the case, we are our own worst enemies and engineered our own downfall. Goals change games. We gifted Hull 2, if not all 3 goals, with piss poor keeping and defending. At the other end, we missed our best chance to get back to 1-1, in fact Downs didn't even hit the target. I think Archer would have done better with that chance, but he didn't get any service like that against the skates and got dropped. When we did start creating chances, the damage had already been done and Hull were sitting back anyway.

As for Robinson and a few of the other now fringe players, they will probably get baptism of fire stating berths on Tuesday night !!

Things we learnt from the derby game
at 13:23 17 Sep 2025

3. trying to gain kudos for winning the League 2 title is frankly pathetic. We have never played in that league and it's highly embarrassing that a club of your supposed size has spent FOUR seasons in the 4th tier this century.

4. Westwood is actually 62 years old. (born April 14th 1963, according to Wiki). It claims he has 60 Pompey related tattoos.

He is definitely improving, but apart from his heroics at the other end v Preston, has done little to fill the fans with confidence.

He produced a great save v Wrexham, that ultimately helped us win the game, but he was a little suspect position wise for both goals v Watford and Stoke.

Would have preferred it if we had got the Stoke 'keeper in during the window, instead of the Norwich reserve, so he could at least challenge Baz for the first team starting berth.
