A very enthralling and evenly fought test and a vast improvement on the previous disappointment.
At least they now know they can win without having to chase all the time.

There was a Stag Do on Social Media about 4 weeks ago.
A group of about 15 Saints fans going to Prague.
14 of them wearing Saints Shirts
The Groom-to-be for his punishment, was in a Pompey shirt

Because the Skates have been so shite of late, out of the Prem for 15 years and have languished in 3rd and 4th tiers for the 13 of those 15 years, none of the local youngsters support them as their main team any more. It is Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool and they quite like Pompey as their 2nd team, as they are the local team.

We recently went to Gun Wharf (early May) to take my parents up the Spinnaker Tower. The football shirts seen that day were Man Utd x 1, Chelsea x 1, Bournemouth x 1 and Southampton x 1 (and it was that awful pink effort FFS !!).

Nigerian soccer site claiming Tall Paul deal ‘stalled’
at 12:59 27 Jun 2025

As I said in my previous post, the fact that he didn't play for us last time we were in the Champ, suggests he has a clause in his contract, so we either have to loan him out or sell.

Probably best to get some money for him now, rather than run his contract down with loans, like we have done in the past with so many other players and get no transfer fee, yet still have to pay them a loyalty bonus for seeing out their contracts.

Don't forget some of these superstar players we have on our books, think they are above playing in the Championship and have clauses in their contracts so that they can loan or transfer out, should we get relegated.

As Tall Paul didn't play for us in the Champ last time around, I guess he has such a clause in his contract.

Assuming he departure is imminent, our current striking options are

Armstrong
Archer
BBD
Stewart
Sulemana - if he doesn't go to Italy
Fernandes
Dibling
Ballard

I'm sure that list will change over the next couple of months, but it's not too bad for the Championship as it stands.

Incoming -

- Paltry offer in the region of £8m
or
- Offer to take him on loan and pay 1/4 of his wages, to help him run down his contract so he can leave on a free, ensuring we recoup £0 from our large original outlay

Did you pay top dollar for your stadium when you wet bust?'

What an amusingly written post. Try proof reading next time !! :-)

You keep mentioning 'decade' in your posts. I'll remind you once again of where you were a decade ago, 84th position in a pub league !! :-)

Yep .... In it to win that double you mentioned.

When was your last "double" in the Prem ?
It was way back in March 2010

Being out of the Prem and even the Championship for so long, is the reason why so many of your city's 10 to 20 year olds now support teams like Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and the Manchester clubs. Pompey are their 2nd team. Fact.

You've got to be in it to win it.
15 years and counting since you were in the Prem.
How very embarrassing for a club of your 'supposed' size.

.....and talking of decades, where was your club 10 years ago ?
Oh yes, finishing in an even more embarrassing 84th position.

We actually got in the opposition's box
We actually had shots
We forced their keeper to make save or 2
We hit the post

Everton Game Matchday Thread

Truly awful, passionless display in the first half. Players are either still in bed or caught up in the whole media Goodison w@nkfest.

Coverage is awful too. Who cares if Rooney is there, we don't want to keep seeing him, other fans, or aerial shots of how far apart the grounds are.

Mind you, the way we have approached this game, seeing Liverpool from the air makes better viewing.

Southampton V Manchester City The Verdict
at 14:59 12 May 2025

Honestly, Sulemana was poor.

Half the time he didn't see to know whether he was playing down the middle or on the left wing. He was obviously up against a top notch back line, so nobody really expected too much from him, but his inability to make runs when we were looking for an outlet or ball over the top was obvious and when he had the ball, he usually ran into danger with a bad touch or poor decision.

With City pushing us back and bossing the possession, we were hopeful of Sule hitting them on the break like he did so well at Old Trafford.

Unfortunately he lacked support, or options from our midfield runners when he had the ball and all too often he would give it away, but most frustratingly would then just stop - not bothering to chase the ball as City played it round their back line, or track back when they played it forward. I am surprised he stayed on for as long as he did, but then again, he is the fastest we have.

Bar a few occasions when he actually looked interested, Dibling's performance was very similar, but a lot more defensively orientated.

Southampton V Manchester City The Verdict

If anyone should be singled out, it should be Kevin De Bruyne for his diving and the ref for buying his dives - trying their best to give their £400k a week under-performer a chance of scoring from a free-kick.

It was blatant cheating. You could see the frustration on Big Les' face (together with all the other players and Saints Fans) when the ref eagerly blowed for the KDB dives and even at one stage waited til a City player asked for the foul before duly blowing !!

The ref gave us virtually nothing all game. We are already down, so it doesn't matter, kind of attitude. Even when Haaland was shoving Bednarek right in front of ref, he only had a word with him, then failed to spot (or chose to ignore) Haaland taking Bednarek out from the resulting free kick as he ran towards the box. Direct Free kick just outside the box and yellow card all day long, but as it was off the ball and media darling Haaland, he chose to not do anything about it.

That City sub who became the ball boy, whilst he was warming up was amusing, down by the Itchen - Chapel Corner. Running onto the pitch to get the ball, so that any free kicks, throw ins, goal kicks and corners could be taken more quickly. Surely he is not allowed to do this ? Encroachment etc. No late goal this time, so we had the last laugh :-)

Their ridiculously expensive squad, getting paid the most ridiculous wages has been the worst scoring team against us over the home and away games this season.

1-0 and 0-0

So just the solitary goal

Only Everton can do worse, depending on how we do at Goodison next week.

As for Dias, WAC. Complacency at its highest.

Would you have Ralph back?
at 13:19 6 May 2025

I'm fully aware of the circumstances of both 9-0 defeats and yes the red cards were obviously massive influences on the games. They were freak results, but at least we didn't concede 10 at home to Leicester in the top flight - like our Skate Mates did and without any red card involvement !!

Ralph coming back is definitely not the answer.

He is fully accountable for the nose dive we had in that last 12 games in season 21-22. You say he kept us in the Prem, but to be honest, we were pretty much safe before those 12 games. The season changed with our 4-0 away defeat to Villa and it seems that he lost the dressing room after that game. A whole host of awful results followed, including a 6-0 home defeat to Chelsea and embarrassing defeats 3-0 at Brentford and 4-1 at Leicester. I know we had limited striking options with injuries etc, but his failure to motivate the team in that run-in, was ultimately the start of his decline. He then famously took it to the next level by throwing a young on loan striker under the bus, openly blaming him for our lack of goals. We all know what happened at the start of the next season and I was surprised he lasted as long as 14 games.

Ralph was sacked at the weekend, for no wins in 8 games - the last being a 4-0 away drubbing. We were on a similar run with him in charge at Saints. 1 win in 12 at the end of his last full season.

We are currently on 11 without a win, or 12 if you include the FA Cup.

Never forget your 10-0 top flight defeat at home to Leicester. Who cares when it was - it happened, so remember it.

We've never had a 71st place finish. You are still trying to create your Portsmyth about this, but the fact is, in the season you refer to (1955-56) we finished 14th in Division 3 South. The FA officially split the leagues into North and South and didn't merge results or standings at the end of the season. So regardless of whether you have attempted to merge the the 2 leagues, it is not official and just shows how desperate you are.

Your club has had 4 seasons in the 4th tier and officially finished 84th just 10 years ago. Is that recent enough for you ?

Having not been in the limelight (as you call it) for so long, what 16 seasons is it now ? You are not really in a position to comment on the subject.

I bet you drank Carling Premier when you were in the 2nd tier !! :-)

Frstton Park is over 100 years old, so it is officially an antique. You can say what you like, but you still want to move to a new stadium yourselves. Regardless of what you say about St Marys, deep down you are jealous of it - fact.

Fallen, and recently with the biggest defeat in history - didn't surpass your 10-0 home defeat to Leicester

Did see the big fall coming but could do nothing about it - Falling into the 4th tier is far worse and far more embarrassing for a club of your supposed size

Going to be out of the limelight for some time - Finishing in 84th place out of 92 league teams only 10 years back, is really hitting the darkest of dark eras

The main building he worked in is by the water, but looking a bit old now - SMS is only 24 years old this year and has had numerous updates and improvements. Fratton Park, also close to the water, is about 125 years old and despite modernising attempts, still looks old, out of date, a safety hazard (so many enforced updates) and is somewhere you want to move out of. We are still waiting for that new stadium Mandric layed the first brick for, all those years ago, or perhaps even that Whale Island stadium :-)
