I'm watching the Cork-Limerick match. It's half-time and Limerick are winning by 2-18 to 0-9, which nobody saw coming. It looks like they're back to their unplayable best, Cork look utterly shell-shocked.
The Munster Championship just keeps on delivering.
Which is fine, when you are playing on manicured pitches maintained with loving care by professionals.
However, the rules of the game have to cover all matches, on all types of surfaces. Some corner areas are not as well maintained as others, hence that change was introduced.
Some newly promoted sides have attempted that strategy over the years, hoovering up decent players over the summer from other Championship teams that didn't get promoted, but it didn't work out for them.
The bottom line appeared to be that if you put together a side filled with Championship players, you end up with a Championship team.
We learned a long time ago that the squad doesn't have strength in depth, so why are people surprised that results fall off when key players are injured?
Marti has done a remarkable job to keep the club in the Championship once again.
I voted for Alfie's goal too. It's rare to see a passage of play with such deft and subtle one-touch passing in modern professional football. It was clearly a well rehearsed, training ground move and was a joy to watch. That goal will live long in the memory.
It's unlikely that we'll ever use that move again, as other teams coaching staff will now be wise to it and will prepare their defenses accordingly.
Very true. He was our best player at the time. But to be honest he just had to display a hint of professionalism to stand out from the rest among that squad.
