are we safe, yes or no....
at 18:16 12 Apr 2025

Luton and Plymouth are 10 points behind us with 12 still to play for. They need to win 3 and draw 1 just to equal our current points. That is not going to happen.
Cardiff are 8 points behind so need 2 wins and 2 draws to equal our points total, and they need to turn round a goal difference currently 15 worse than ours. I’m pretty sure that is not going to happen either. Even if it did, we only go down if Derby win 2 and draw 1 out of 4, and all of Preston, Stoke, Portsmouth and Hull also overtake us.
Conclusion - we are safe

Cardiff Reflection
at 18:01 5 Apr 2025

I thought QPR played reasonably well in the first half and created some promising attacks if not actual clear chances. Cardiff’s half time substitutions brought them back into the game and we then looked nervy and defended too deep. We also have no one who can shoot with any power without having half a dozen touches first. Considering the lack of attacking options available to us, I’m reasonably content with the result. This was more “must not lose” than “must win” and we achieved that modest objective.

Stuttering QPR’s home woes continue against Hull – Report
at 14:24 3 Oct 2024

In a way I am more worried that we played well for reasonably long spells and still contrived to be soundly beaten than I would be if we had played badly. I didn’t see any lack of effort, so I am inclined to blame Marti, for persisting with a set-up that looked vulnerable, more than the players. I hope he will learn some lessons from it. As others have said, baffling why we didn’t have at least one player on the half way line when we defended corners. And on a more trivial note - but a bit typical of how we shoot ourselves in the foot - why is Jude the Cat wandering around confusing our players during the game?

Bicycle stolen from work: Advice needed
at 12:37 5 Jun 2024

Not an insurance expert but I would suggest:
- check your home & contents policy to see if it covers bikes away from home. You would probably have had to ask for that cover specifically. If you do have that cover then be honest with them about the circumstances and see if they will pay out.
- if you can’t get a payout from your own insurer, ask your employer whether their insurance covers employees’ belongings stolen from their premises
- I presume the incident was reported to the police. This will be a requirement for the insurers, and I suppose there is an outside chance they might even recover your bike at some point.

Probate/Estate planning question
at 15:24 27 Jan 2024

Sorry to hear you’re going through all this.
You should absolutely take proper professional advice because anything you read on the Internet or from this forum is not advice that is tailored to your particular circumstances. That said, some points to consider:
- the nil rate band for a main residence tapers off if the estate is worth over £2m in total at a rate of £1 for every £2, so if the estate is over £2.35m the main residence is irrelevant. Obviously it is also irrelevant if the estate is under the amount of the nil rate band (up to £650k)
- your mother’s estate will benefit from her nil rate band (£325k) plus any unused amount from your father’s, so potentially £650k, but less if your father made any bequests that used some of his nil rate band
- your planning needs to take account of the fact that you can’t know for sure how much your mum will be spending on the care home and therefore how much the estate will be
- your mum will be liable for income tax on net rent received from the properties, plus someone will have the trouble of managing them. If it were me I would seriously look at selling at least the one that was not her main residence and investing in something more liquid to generate the cash to pay for the care home. You could get a 4% plus after tax yield by investing in shortdated gilts (get ones with a low interest rate which sell at a discount to par because the capital gain on gilts is tax free)
- AIM shares are a possibility but as a previous poster pointed out are pretty volatile. I know someone who put some of her estate into AIM shares between 2019 and 2021. Overall, she is slightly ahead because of the 40% saving in IHT but they have gone down in value quite substantially (and most of them don’t generate much income). Note that HMRC will not tell you in advance which specific shares qualify for the relief. Also, what if your mum does not live for 2 years or what if the legislation changes? Obviously there is only any point in taking this risk with the portion of the assets which would otherwise be liable to IHT .
- it is not too late, if all the beneficiaries agree, to vary the terms of your dad’s will ( the deadline is 2 years from death) if that had any tax benefit e,g, to use the main residence relief for his house
Conclusion - it’s complicated so get that professional advice,

Watering the pitch
at 11:31 12 Nov 2023

Would be interested in the views of those more knowledgable than me on this. Yesterday, it seemed to me a few of our players were slipping over in the first half. So at half time the powers that be decided to water the pitch some more, and Dykes then falls over right in front of goal. We haven’t exactly had a drought recently so why is it necessary to put so much water on? Do other clubs do this? Not just yesterday, either, I’ve had a bee in my bonnet about this for years!

He has not been convicted of any crime so cannot receive any criminal punishment. However, we are all entitled to form a view on his character and conduct based on evidence that is in the public domain. My view is we shouldn’t touch him with a barge pole. Others may have a different view, but it is worth bearing in mind that Man Utd, who know him best and supposedly have access to evidence we have not seen, despite saying he is innocent of the original charges, don’t want him to play for them - so why on earth would we?

“Chaotic”,”crazy”, “the state of the place” - those who were in charge last season might find this uncomfortable reading. Certainly implies Ainsworth has a negative view of Les Ferdinand’s leadership, and doesn’t reflect well on Hoos or the board either. Slightly surprised he is voicing that so publicly.

China working harder on renewables? Also on opening 2 new coal fired power stations each week. While we cripple our economy with the costs of net zero they are having a laugh at our expense.

I was rather shocked at the implication that they didn’t have tailored training before. I would have thought that was something absolutely basic that every professional football club would have.

Just got the equaliser for Scotland against Norway, and now Scotland have gone 2-1 up from his assist. Good news if we are selling him as it must enhance his value.

I stayed as did quite a lot in the SB stand but very few in SAR. Applauded them because (a) I think there are a few like Field and Dykes who deserve it for their effort, even if the results have been poor (b) we probably won’t see many of them again and the likes of Chair and Willock have given us some great moments over their QPR careers
