I think both Kyle Ferguson and Fin Armstrong are decent players, but both have suffered due to the excellent form and fitness of Sam Beckwith, who was voted Players' Player of the Season and hardly missed a game, whilst Hogan has also been pretty good since he was signed. Who we keep/offer new terms to depends to a certain extent on the players themselves. Ferguson may want to move on elsewhere for a regular starting position, so might Armstrong, even though he's contracted. Will Liam Hogan want to carry on at this level (or possibly L2), or would he prefer less travelling? I also agree that Jack Kingdon would be an excellent recruit, but probably out of our league - I imagine Bolton, Wigan or Stockport (or other L1/2 clubs) would also be interested. |

I believe we've also played Hull City at five different venues: Spotland/COA Anlaby Road Boothferry Park KC Stadium Elland Road (cup 2nd replay) |

To be fair to the Stockport chairman, he's a local lad whose property development business does actually develop properties, rather than a fantasist chancer from out of town, many of whose properties didn't get off the backs of the fag packets they were designed on, as seen at a certain other nearby club... |

As well as Liam Hogan (and Kingdon and Beckwith) played at the back, I'd have given MOTM to Aidy Barlow, who was always willing and busy, and took his goal well. Having said that, nobody played badly in an excellent team performance. |

Looking up Matt Penney, I noticed he made his FL debut at Spotland, playing the last half hour of the end of season game in 2017 on loan to Bradford from Sheffield Wendies, playing alongside former Dale players Stephen Darby and Rory McArdle. |

Let's have a run of home ties against proper Northern clubs: R1 Bradford R2 Udders R3 Hull R4 Blunts R5 Wendies R6 Leeds SF Smoggies F York We'll probably actually end up with something dull like Col Ewe away - shit ground on a bypass many miles away... |

Joe Rafferty, Craig Dawson, Paul Butler are just three examples of young defenders who played well when given their chances and developed into excellent players at Dale. I hope Kyron, Kyle and Sam can turn out just as well. |

A splendid read. The author knows his football, and writes intelligently and interestingly. |

What's wrong with Rees (note speling)Mogg? If terrace style chanting were allowed in the Commons: "Shit Charles Hawtrey, you're just a shit Charlie Hawtrey"... Probably the most useless tosser involved in English government since Despencer the Younger in the early 1320s.. |

Agree with you re Jez - got the physical attributes but not the concentration. I did quite like what I saw of Afuye - considering he'd only played Manchester League (I think) beforehand, he was out of his depth being thrown in at National League level at the start of the season, but did concentrate and put a shift in and seems to have done well enough on loan a couple of leagues down with Guiseley to (per Wikipedia) be now with Curzon Ashton in NLN. Shubbar, I'd forgotten about completely... |

Young goalie Brad Kelly signs for a further year. Have only seen him in last year's pre-season game against Bradford for half a game, but he did look pretty competent. Hope his injury issues are over - with seven subs this year he may well get at least a seat on the bench. |

So we're getting Sutton and Forest Green. Hopefully Worthing (seaside) and Brackley (any excuse for a long weekend in Oxford) to come up. Nothing against Alty or the Shaymen, but I'd rather keep the derbies. Of Gateshead, Solihull, Barnet and Bromley, the last named are the least interesting, so they can get promoted... |

A couple of points that haven't been mentioned. 1. I think Tyrese Sinclair is still young enough that, if he's offered a new deal on the same or better terms than thus season, we would be entitled to a fee under the Bosman rules if he decides to move elsewhere. 2. Whilst the step up from the level he played at last season proved to be a bit much for Michael Afuye this season, he seems to be doing reasonably well at Guiseley on loan and may be worth looking at again. From what I saw early this season he couldn't be faulted for effort and application, even if he wasn't then ready for Conference National level. |

Registered or not, he's not on the bench today - Big Ferg seems to have recovered sufficiently to be a sub. John, Gordon, Sinclair all start - shades of Gregory's Girl |
