I started following the Swans in the mid 70’s as a 10 year old with my Dad under Harry Griffiths and in 1979 he took me to Wrexham away with the Swans to stay with a work colleague of his who was a Season Ticket holder at Wrexham.
After the game we were invited into the Players Lounge and were made so welcome I particularly remember Terry Darracott and Dixie McNeill being so welcoming and friendly I can only compare itto the Harry Griffiths Bar at the Vetch I have so many great memories of that place too !!
Such incredible, personal memories of that era for me culminating in that meteoric rise to Division One under Tosh, I never thought I would witness anything like that ever again in my lifetime but in 2011 we pulled it off yet again and my two sons saw history repeat itself yet again quite incredible !!
Over my 50 year ‘rollercoaster’ journey in following the Swans I have to say that the simplistic and humble days of the 1970’s will stay forever special in my heart !!
Been fortunate to have been at Deepdale for both the 1981 Div 1 promotion game and ‘that’ Ferrie goal ; watching that shot fly in from behind the goal was a thing of beauty seemed to be in the air for an age !!
Beast of a player with incredible unfulfilled potential remember seeing him break down in front of the South Stand in his comeback game against Birmingham I think it was very sad indeed 😔
Why are some of our brain dead tw@ts still singing that despicable chant ‘Hope he’s dead’ when the Sunderland player went down FFS sick as feck they are 😡😡
Will never forget that game up at the SoL back in May 2017 what a weekend we flew up to Newcastle Kyle Naughton scored that screamer to ease our relegation worries and THE most emotional tribute from the Swans fans to Bradley Lowrey very poignant indeed such a brave lad 😢 ⚽️❤️
Left there last week thankfully after my Dad was taken into hospital(ICU) out there for 3 weeks ; what a surreal experience that was but I have to say I cannot speak highly enough about the promptness and efficiency of the Spanish health care system ; after reporting his rapidly declining condition to the reception of our hotel he received an emergency visit from a doctor within 20 minutes and we were then ‘blue lighted’ into a private hospital by ambulance within the hour and admitted DIRECTLY into Intensive Care.
He was in ICU for 5 days then on a ward for 8 days and we eventually flew back home on a ‘repatriation flight’ last week where a UK based GP flew over to meet us and accompanied us back to the UK.
Anyway, he’s back home now in a local care home temporarily but that is after a traumatising experience at Morriston hospital where he had to go for admission ; quite frankly it was like experiencing a third world healthcare facility compared to Spain.
Just thought I’d share my personal experiences and be good to hear from Keith if the care my Dad received is ‘the norm’ or unique for private health/insurance cases ?
Totally understand that both you and Phil must be somewhat despondent Keith given the apparent apathy surrounding the current International break etc, however, given that the break is for the ‘Nations League’ fixtures I truly believe that older football fans like myself who have experienced top level competition for our country over many years and indeed the very competitive Home Internationals back in the day really cannot ‘buy in’ to this new ‘cash cow’ of a competition.
Just my opinion of course lots will disagree 🤔🤷🏼♂️⚽️🏴💪
My late Grandmother used to treat me to a Knickerbocker Glory in Joe’s St Helens Road back in the early 1970’s when I was about 8 years old wonderful memories ❤️
Watching in Spain with the family it’s San Juan night here in Andalucia bonfires on the beach and a midnight swim later.
Having witnessed our demise to the cheating Jocks at Anfield in 78 and again at Onion Park in 85 I hope their hopes go up in flames as well tonight 🔥🔥🔥
I was interviewed by SSN in Doha at the last World Cup on the day of our England game and my feeling throughout was that they thought we were there simply to make up the numbers (probably true but please cut out that ‘English arrogance’ …….why does every other Six Nations country wish England to lose I wonder ??
An English ‘gentleman’ behind me with his family totally disrespected our anthem calling us everything under the sun so for the first time EVER when GSTQ was played I sat down back to the pitch & stared this Kent in his eyes he was a bit quieter after that !!
