I am not a patience Saints fan but having lived with the disaster of Russell Martin and being bored out of my skull let’s give Still some space. Yes we have too big a squad and that’s down to Sports Repubic not running the business well and Spors who we had hoped would take us to another level but has come up short.
We have cried out for a target man and have totally failed the manager miserably. The hope in Stewart is at present short lived, which is a shame. I hear the view that Downs is only 21 and in a learning curve. What garbage he is an extremely poor signing and Spors is to blame I really hope I am wrong but the old adage of good enough at a young age play them. |

The performance vindicates the fans who believe Stephens and Harwood Bellis were not helping the cause all 3 defenders played well. The midfield looked more positive. Still selections were spot on and your article had negative vibes which I am surprised at based on the dross served up at previous home games.
One issue in my view is Marmite Man Ryan Manning who I thought played well at Liverpool but defensively against Boro he was poor.
Up front Stewart is a better option to Headless Chicken Downs but still not sure he is the answer.
Other than that I felt more positive in leaving St Mary’s. |

I thought the style of play by Saints was much better and the comments about the 3 centre backs were spot on. I really hope they get an opportunity against Middlesbrough and Will Still has the bottle to leave out the passive, predictable Stephens and the inept Harwood Bellis.

I read the Hull report which really sums up the rubbish being served up. “Their centre backs pass to each other a thousand times”. The defending particularly Harwood Bellis and the dreadful buy from Brentford is awful. Please Mr Still grow a backbone and drop the players who insist on playing the Russell Martin way. Inaffective offensive play due to the continued slow buildup is killing us.I really want us to succeed like all Saints supporters but I am extremely concerned that this group who are probably the most well paid in the Championship are just not hungry enough. I think the manager is spot on. I previously mentioned the 2 centre backs who persistently play the crap served up by Russell Martin and Downes falls into this mould of negative tippy tappy rubbish. If the Manager expects them to change and they continue with this awful style of play just leave them out.
New broom I would rather have and a more direct style of play. Onwards and upwards!! |

What a let down. When we play out from the back with Still’s obvious first choice centre backs Stephens and Harwood Bellis I feel due to their desire to play tippy tappy Russell Martin style of play it sets the tone for the whole team. Slow build up becomes the norm and it appears ingrained in them. Still has a real task on his hands moulding this team into a promotion seeking team.
Compounded by a lack of a proper target man up front. Playing high balls up to Archer was a joke and clearly not playing to his strengths. I know this is early days but the lack of goal scoring opportunities is very worrying. I really hope the new signings when bedded in make a difference in the coming weeks. |

I think the signings and the clear out on balance is OK. My biggest concern surrounds What appears the prime central defenders Harwood Bellis and Stephens who are in my opinion dodgy as mistakes are still happening at the back and they do not demonstrate any kind of leadership. Missing the trick on a leader in the Craig Dawson mould should have a priority.
This Manager does need time and he has placed his faith in these guys. I hope he is right and my concerns are unfounded. Time will tell |

I watched the whole game and the comments are spot on. Woeful, dreadful complete lack of fight. The 3 centre backs were awful and how Harwood Bellis obtained an England call up is beyond me.
I went to Goodison and saw us lose 8-0 and at Elland Road for the well televised 7-0 thrashing. This was worse. The first goal what the hell was Benerak and useless Stephens doing? God knows!!
I would not play any of the quitters again and we all have a fair opinion of who they are.
The wonderful Saints fans who made this journey should at least have their 2025/26 season ticket paid for my SR as clearly they have been done under the fault goods return policy. |

Same old, same old. Men against boys most of our players are just not physically capable of going toe to toe with the likes of Fulham, so parking the bus and keeping it tight appears to be the only option available to Rusk and Lallana.

I am no fan of Captain Jack but a better balance in regard to Harwood Bellis and Benerak who both made life more difficult for the team. Benerack was skinned by the Palace forward with a poor challenge that resulted in Palace hitting the bar plus his horrible back pass to Ramsdale which are mistakes he continues to persistently makes. As for Harwood Bellis look at his two defensive headers that led to the goal. Yes Stephen’s should have closed the Palace player down but Harwood Bellis should and could have put the ball into touch rather send his header direct to a Palace player who crossed to the Palace player. |

I really thought Juric was restoring some semblance of pride but this was an exceptionally poor performance. I cannot figure defensively what he is trying to achieve.
The backbone of any side starts with a strong spine so 2 strong centre backs with a good goalkeeper is really the starting point so I am at a complete loss of individuals such as Bree being part of this.

Why can’t Saints just transfer list the players they and us want shot of.
I know in this modern age agents and players control so much but having lost so much money on poor signings surely the Saints Board would win some sort of credibility if they showed some balls in listing players who have shown they have not got the ability to play in the premiership and tell clubs certain players are not for sale.
On a completely different matter the salary quoted in a recent article if true for Kyle Walker Peters is appalling and how our best performing player by a country mile has stayed with us is a credit to him. The new manager has at least restored some semblance of pride and I will live with the statement that he will be our manager next season.
The idiots around the owner have a lot to answer for along side the dreadful trust they placed in Russell Martin.
The cheap signings and Martin undying belief that the group of players were world beaters ( well that’s what he told them) is now very transparent. Manning, Bree,Captain Jack, Bednarek, Downes, Fraser, Armstrong,Sugarwara, Smallbone all out of their depth and my jury is out on the likes of Aribo, Harwood - Bellis and Archer.
Our only class players KWP and Dibling are very likely to leave so a clean out is needed for the next season.

Never been a picker on a chooser but the complete lack of fight in the players was extremely poor and as a paid up season ticket holder enough is enough.
My Dad on Monday 9th March 1959 (with me at his side) decided enough was enough after Brentford beat us 6-0 at the Dell and apart from 2 games in the next 35 years he never went again. I however returned on Saturday 14th March 1959 to see us beat the mighty Southend United 3-2.
I will unlike my Dad return in 2025/26 but will not return to watch Sports Republc football team for the remainder of this season.
I had hoped for some semblance of pride from this group of players who earn more in a week that most of us earn in a year. AFC Totton v Gosport on 18th January now beckons |

Let us be encouraged by this performance. Regardless of the missed chances it was great to actually see scoring chances rather than the one shot on target in 90 minutes we endured under Russell Martin.
I also like the Manager not accepting fools gladly. Sugawara gave away an unnecessary corner with an unacceptable poor touch which led to the goal and within 2 minutes he was subbed. See the Manager reaction towards Sugawara he just threw his hands in the air and was clearly unhappy.
I think the task is impossible but if he can restore some semblance of pride and respect into this dreadful season that would be something. Onwards and maybe upwards. |

I have no sympathy for Russell Martin in any shape or form. His style of football has been awful and expecting players who are below premiership standard was totally insane.
As we all agree Sports Republic have left matters too late (the Bournemouth game was the right time) now we can only hope someone can come in and at least restore some pride in the remaining 22 games.
Finally everyone bangs on about last year my view was that any manager with the squad we had would have obtained promotion. Remember we were warned by his previous clubs supporters.what to expect and they were not too far off the mark. I feel sad for my one and only club. |

Now missing my 3rd game on the trot and your comments Nick really sums up how I feel.
Why at 75 years of age should I travel to St Mary’s and endure the Russell Martin dross.
Really feel for supporters especially our younger fans who have not seen an exciting attacking team to support lucky for me I seen some really good times.
My current decision is purely based on rubbish style of football and a Manager and Owners who could not care in the slightest want we think. |
