 | News Comment | Returning Goztepe Loanee Might Save Southampton Millions at 10:40:07
I've been one of those critical of Saints buying players for Goztepe. However, I do recognise that the theory behind it is sound. All it needs is one decent player to make it to be profitable. Maybe im just impatient! On PL Academy's, they do actually see quite a few get into the 1st team. Liverpool, Man U,Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal top 5 for Academy minutes in PL. Saints were 8th. I would really like Juan to be successful. Certainly needs to be given a chance in pre season up front, along with Ballard. Save us a lot of money if just one of them can secure a 1st team squad place. |
 | News Comment | Southampton Squad Should They Stay Or Should They Go ! Part 2 at 14:50:30
Another factor is wages. Sugawa £40k, Taylor £30k, Manning, Welington and Larios £15K, Bree £10k pw. KWP was only on £20k, half of Sugawara's pay! So, I would look at selling Sugawa, Manning and Larios and save £70k pw. Raise £9.5m, based on figures about. Use that to buy ONE £10m player, and pay £35k pw. Overall, better player and save £35k pw. That would be my strategy for all positions. |
 | News Comment | Southampton Squad Should They Stay Or Should They Go ! Part 2 at 14:32:29
Watched Larios for U21s. Was disappointed. Can't beat a man. Tidy player, not a bad crosser. Very small, and If I was opposition, would put 6ft wi ger V him on crosses. Don't doubt would be good in Championship, but it's that inability to go past players that swings him to a sell. |
 | News Comment | Returning Loan Players Could Be Crucial For Southampton at 14:30:13
All the loanee's, apart from AA, had good seasons in Championship, or similar level. Yes, might not be PL quality, but let's try and build a promotion squad 1st. As others pointed out, we've got a good squad already, for Championship. The key is not to just sell one good player, and buy 3 bang average. Every buy or loan MUST be better than what we have. No more Cornet's, Gronbaek's. We will sell Ramsdale, Onuachu, Dibling, H-B, Aribo, Bednerek. Amo-Ameyaw sold after loan for £10m, a mistake to me. So, buy 3 £30m, and pay £40k pw not 6 £15m, for £20k pw. Can also have 4 loans, only 2 over 23, plus emergency keeper over a season. So I would get max 7 in, but as said ONLY if better than have. |
 | News Comment | Saints 2025/26 Season Ticket Pricing 5% Discount Is Not Enough at 15:22:32
But only 5% if pay upfront. Actually no 5% AND 5% MORE if want discount. I think also was 10 payments, now 7. So that's 10% more than if have money to pay now. Also, would preferred if kept discount until know who new manager is. Even better if knew who's going, staying, transfer budget. I renewed BTW. Been ST holder since The Dell went all seater. Mates I go with may not renew. |
 | News Comment | Could Southampton's Loaned Out Players Return To Play This Season at 11:34:12
Looked up rules. Loans end last day regular season. So if got into play offs, unless not got specific clause, or agree extension, loanee couldn't play. So, as don't apply , registration comes back to Saints. However, don't know if not being registered at end of last window means not able to play in PL. So still not sure. |
 | News Comment | Ross Stewart Could Feature Against Crystal Palace at 14:05:02
U21s play Blackburn Friday at St Mary's. If Stewart is near playing, I would expect him to be in that squad. 99% sure Juric won't play him V Palace, with no game time under his belt. |
 | News Comment | Danny Rohl Might Not Be Arriving At Southampton After All at 15:16:44
At school a mate asked me to go to some Sunderland away games with him His dad drove us to - Oxford City, not Utd. Sunderland got slaughtered! We left after 3,and had radio on as goals kept going in. That season they won the FA Cup. My mate and his dad, went, but I didn't. |
 | News Comment | Shea Charles On The Radar Of 3 Top Flight Clubs at 13:29:11
Good point by halftimeorange. I thought Amo-Ameyaw was going to break through before Dibling as well. I would still have him on the bench all season before Sulemane, BBD, Fraser, Cornet. They haven't delivered at all, but Amo-Ameyaw could still develop into a good player. |
 | News Comment | Southampton FC Sack Russell Martin at 09:32:16
Agree with others, few months too late. Need PL/Cship experienced manager. I would be radical. Who is going to be in Cship next year? Sell who we can this window, like KWP, H-B, Fernandes, Downes, Ramsdale, and very reluctantly, Dibling. Get rid, if can't sell, loan, Stephens, Sulemane, Archer, Aribo, BDD, end Cornet/Ugo loans. Bring back Charles. Use £ to build Cship winning squad. Bring on Amo-Ameyaw, O'brien-Whitmarsh. Keep Onuachu. Keep Fraser, Lallana. No value anyway! No idea if Stewart/Larios will ever play again. Play McC until Bazunu fit. The worst thing about Martin is because of him, we are going to lose Dibling and Fernandes. Also got to blame SR. Won't buy unless have resale value. So missed out on likes of Wood. A few good buys in crucial area's, and we could have been mid table. And failurecto use Onuachu. He's a good player, but Martin just don't like old style strikers. Wanted to play like Man C. But ignored they actually got a big striker in Haarland! They don't use 'false 9s' like he did with Sulemane last night. We're down, so it's now about getting back up, and staying up next time. |
 | News Comment | Russell Martin Turns On The Fans And Players at 15:31:53
SR have told Martin to play like Man City. They use statistics and data to buy. But, won't buy unless can sell for profit. That's just stupid. Woods at Forest and Jimenez at Fulham both 6ft 3 and in 30s. No resale value, but actually score goals. Jimenez on £100k pw. That's what we used to pay JWP. Don't mind buying Man City academy players to develop and sell. Lavia sold for a profit, even after his fee, AND all the others we got from MC. When sell H-B, Charles, Edozie, and Bazunu/Lavia if ever fit, pure profit. So, can afford to get 1 or 2 old hands in, with no resale value. It's having 'principles' V reality. Same as tippy tappy. Must be half way house. Not playing Onuachu due to some prejudice against long balls and traditional 'English' No.9 style, also brainless. |
 | News Comment | Southampton At Aston Villa The Preview at 12:28:29
I'm a season ticket holder, and go with 2 mates. None of us bothered going to Chelsea game. We are just fed up with arrogance of Martin and refusal to stop suicide soccer. Been a ST holder since the Dell went all seater. We've got a decent lower PL squad. Just need 2 or 3 better players, and get rid deadwood. But, it's now too late. Have to change manager and build team for Championship. |
 | News Comment | Enough Is Enough ! Russell Martin Has To Adapt Or Go ! at 12:25:48
Mates I go with couldn't go last night. Pissing down, as even though a season ticket holder, couldn't be bothered to walk 40 mins to the game. Don't regret the decision. Martin's ego has got us relegated. Just tweak the play a bit. Allow keeper to go long when under pressure. Pity we haven't got a 6ft 7 CF who could hold the ball up - oh wait! |
 | News Comment | Southampton Already Have Their Target To Replace Russell Martin at 10:32:58
I think Martin os a bad manager in that he just doesn't learn. Tippy tippy or die is his way. Or the highway. Bringing in a Championship manager is just preparing for next season. Sacking Martin will cost money better spend on improving the squad. Said before, buy 3 or 4 1st teamers, not 11/12 for squad. If Martin can just get off his high horse and modify his 'suicide soccer' approach, we could still stay up. But will his ego allow that? And buy a proper No.9, better than Stewart, Big Paul! In meantime, try BBD there. So, Martin, change or go. |
 | News Comment | Will Fate Once Again Force Russell Martin's Hand at 14:03:30
Said before, we needed to buy PL quality 1st teamers. Downes, H-B played last year. Others in. Lallana not 1st team, even if quality. Ramsdale, Sugawara, Fernandes, Ogu, yes. BBD, Archer, Cornet, Wood, Taylor, Fraser, no. I would rather got 2, preferably 3, 1st team than those 6 reserves. So, it's not only Martin, it's Sports Republic. Problem is, they use data and statistics and think they are football experts. But 2/3rds signings not up to it. And not 1st time they've done this. 'TOO CLEVER BY HALF' springs to mind. Stephens never been PL. Problem is H-B is getting worse, not developing. Didn't buy a No.9, because Martin don't like them. BBD being played on the wing rather than CF don't help. |
