There appears to be the entire panopoly of squad support staff alongside the players in this season's photo. Some roles are quite mysterious. Does anyone have any idea what a performance therapist does? Or what a performance logistics and player care person might do?
You make some interesting points about Chair, nix. I've been wondering where he fits in now he has some serious competition right across the front 3. If ever we have all our forwards fit at the same time, would Chair be an automatic first pick? Perhaps not, and I wouldn't be surprised to see JS adopt a 'horses for courses' approach to make use of the forward options he has.
Indeed, and added to that are those three game weeks that we've found so difficult to manage. Maybe we now have a squad that can cope with the rigours of the Championship.
We have no fewer than 14 players currently out on loan. The majority are from the dev squad but I can't remember a time when there were more than this at any one time.
As many of us feel we must say, I am not a big fan of Madsen, but....
I have the feeling that a bit of encouragement from us fans in his direction might well go a long way. I'm sure he knows he's not popular which can't be easy for him. So some crowd cheer and even a bit of a chant would boost his confidence. And confidence is vital to play this game.
I was surprised at how bad they looked against us. They played like they were a bunch of strangers thrown together which I think is pretty much what they are.
About 20 years ago coming into Nairobi we hit the most appalling air pockets that people were screaming and praying. It did feel like we were in free fall at times!
I do not think we're in a position to say goodbye to Field. I guarantee there will be games this season when we'll be delighted with him, just as we have been in many games over the past four seasons.
I'm no fan of Madsen but I think that's a tad harsh. His passing stats were good as you'd expect, he actually did get a tackle in and his languid style can bring a calmness to his play.
That said his all too apparent weaknesses often negate his strengths.
What excites me is that we appear to be capable of scoring different types of goals now that we have pace, power and skill in our forwards. Plus, although Kone is likely to be our leading scorer this season, I don't think we're dependent on him.
