Sheffield Wednesday gone into Admin this morning
at 14:48 24 Oct 2025

This is the crux of the issue - players wages. Players wages feed the need for clubs to have wealthy owners, and the type of wealthy person it attracts are usually nutters.

Other ownership models are available, but the current English football league structure makes it very challenging for those types of clubs to really kick on. Instead, the system rewards clubs that can 'game the system' through clever data analytics and inventive accounting.

After Many A Summer Dies The Swan, Swansea Match Thread
at 22:19 22 Oct 2025

After a disappointing result against Millwall it’s great to bounce back with a win.

Madsen was excellent. Really like his style of play and am pleased that he’s found the confidence to play. He’s becoming a key member of the team and I hope he continues to progress.

Hayden was good and much improved from his Oxford performance (last time I saw him play) and clearly just needs game time.

Great to see Chair back, exciting to actually have some decent options on the bench.

We’re up to 8th with plenty to build on, but the bottom line is we won.

Okay, I've clearly not been paying enough attention to Everton...

I was basing that on some very loose evidence - prominent TU people I’ve met who’ve supported them and praise for their community work I heard at a conference. I know the question is more about the fans/fan culture, but that was my impression.

FWIW - I agree with you about keeping politics out of football, on a personal level, but football is political.

I know Clapton Community FC is 'left wing', more overtly so like St Pauli. Dulwich Hamlet are sort of left wing, but I'd say they're a bit more 'hipster', more focused on nice beer and food, less so on politics.

In the football league there aren't any left wing clubs in the style of St Pauli, but when I do think of 'left wing' clubs, Everton and Sunderland come to mind.

Owls’ problems coming home to roost – Preview
at 08:36 27 Sep 2025

Great preview as ever.

Football finance is a total mess and the relationship between the (legacy) fans and owners is increasingly strained. The current model is geared towards an international market and the football league is being rapidly left behind.

Players wages and agents fee’s are a massive problem, I don’t know how realistic it is to impose a salary cap or new ownership rules and still expect someone to invest millions every month with the threat of having it all taken away if it goes tits up. There’s so many aspect of football that aren’t compatible, seems impossible to square the circle.

Anyway, as unfortunate as the Wednesday situation is, I hope we smash them today!

Stoke's issues with Vale continue as QPR make it three from three – Report
at 10:35 23 Sep 2025

Really pleased with the result and performance. Someone mentioned that part of the Madsen rehabilitation is due to having players in front of him that will move/run, you could see that on Saturday. Also, seeing him get more involved in the defensive side had a massive impact, allowed us to win back possession on multiple occasions, broke up attacks etc. That's not to take away from the obvious benefits of having two competent strikers, Saito, Vale's left foot and Morrison who's literally putting himself on the line! It felt and looked like a much more coherent team.

On Stephan, I really liked what he said about making mistakes and having the courage to take risks. He doesn't just talk about tactics but is clear about the mentality he wants his players to have and how to apply the tactics.

Great report, thanks as ever.

Wouldn’t include Amos. He was a good player who unfortunately suffered with injuries.

Noticeably more involved. Made a number of important tackles/blocks/interceptions in the first half. When you add all that to the things he does well it makes a much more rounded and better performance.

Really pleased for him.

Back spasms
at 21:20 18 Sep 2025

That’s a fair point, but this particular video is very gentle, mostly breathing and light stretching. I should have added - this isn’t one to fix your back, try it once your back is feeling better. It will really help to stretch your lower back.

I had lower back pains - not as bad as yours Chef, by the sounds of it. Anyway, planking, that's what worked for me. It wasn't instant, but I got into the routine of doing 3 minutes every morning . It really helped.

I also used to do the routine from this video and it was amazing. If you've not done a yoga before you might feel a bit silly at first, but you'll feel amazing after!

How did Madsen play yesterday?

I have been a vocal critic of Madsen. Didn’t go to the game on Saturday, but when saw the result and saw that he got an assist all I thought was happy days!

He also designed the VW Beetle. I also didn't know that VW was started by the Nazi, but only turned into an international brand that we know today after WW2, after the factory came under British control.

I moved a few weeks ago. Opted to rent a Luton van and do it myself. Saved about £600. Looking back, I still ask myself if it was worth it, it was that stressful, haha!

Good luck Hubble.
