Football can be brutal, hopefully Marti won't be judged on the results and the owners will see the bigger picture. You've mentioned Curbishley before, I think Warburton was our 'Curbishley' moment.
Thanks Clive, appreciate your efforts, however, reading this report has made me realise the obvious reason I enjoy the previews more than the reports, haha!
I've felt underwhelmed by Marti and have been wondering why considering how loved he is. I realise now that it's not Marti, but it's the team, or should I say, the club. This is where we are and no manager seems able to change that. It's not just QPR that's the problem, it's football in general. The odds are stacked against us. The rich keep getting richer and the poor (or should I say, the clubs that don't generate money or find creative ways of cooking the books) struggle to break even. Having said that, we have made mistake that were within our control - Madsen.
I knew the first time I watched him play that he was not up to the standard. There's a basic level of application every professional football player has to apply. I've not seen it from him once. All the people saying 'there's a player there', there isn't. For the odd few good touches he makes, he is not good enough to justify coasting through games like he does. Andersen I can forgive. He's clearly over the hill, but still has something to offer when he's played in the right position - but the bottom line is, he also shouldn't be playing. But, that is where we are as a club. Marti has a tough job, the owners are trying, but for the love of God, we really need to sort out our recruitment.
1: How did the club lose £2.8mil getting promoted?! 2: Why were the fans abusing the chairman and his family? 3: What were the comments that were said that got Hooper banned?
I'm not against fan ownership, but even clubs like AFC Wimbledon have foreign investment propping them up. I feel there's a bigger issue of football just not being sustainable.
I love that money awarded for participation takes into consideration 'commercial criteria' , this tells you everything you need to know. Zero sporting integrity.
I would like to wish all my fellow Anglo/Iranian and Iranian R’s a happy Nowruz! To all the non-Persian R’s looking to join in the celebration - get yourself a bottle red wine (Shiraz, obviously) and raise a glass to the new year!
May the spirit of renewal and growth bring success to our beloved Queens Park Rangers!
I watched the Kolli interview - strong ‘This Time’ vibes, which I suppose the show is based on. Highlight was when the nutritionist asked Kolli if he‘rehydrates’ (aka, has a drink) when he breaks fast, to which Kolli replied with a confused ‘of course’, haha!
We played well today. The team have to be given credit for that performance. I thought we were good out possession and are better suited to play a team that plays like Leeds. This was a much better game of football compared to the turgid one against Sheff Utd.
Leeds second goal showed the difference in quality and we did well to snuff out their tactic. Better teams have come unstuck against Leeds this season.
I’ve been watching more games online this season and definitely think watching live gives you a better sense of the performance and effort. You just can’t appreciate the speed of the game. It’s all opinions and this is mine.
We all know the limitations of this squad, cut them some slack. We worked our socks off, scored a quality goal and held the divisions top team to a draw. I’m glad I was at Loftus Road to see it. Well done Rangers!
I use to think that an AFC Wimbledon model might work well for QPR, but I get the impression most QPR fans don't live local to the club, whereas Wimbledon fans seem more rooted in the local area.
In any case, I'd definitely be in favour of some sort of fan representation with regards to the heritage of the club. I'd hate to see us go through another Briatore era re-brand.
Wasn't the point of us adopting this style of play to attract loan players from the PL and to develop our own to be sold on? I recall Warburton or Ferdinand (possibly both) saying that.
I think where we fell short was on the wings. Too many times second half Smyth and Saito were isolated in 2 v 1 situations without support. No overlapping runs and, obviously, no third player coming in for support. Utd looked comfortable and we had no way through their low-block. It was a fair result and reflected the gulf in quality. Utd’s second goal really summed it up.
I think we chalk this one off and look to the next game.
As ‘concept’ kits go, this ain’t bad, just shove an old crest in the background and use a colour that has no association with the club. 👌 Would have been cool if this kit was white with blue trim so it was a proper tribute to our old home kit.
That aside, I actually like it and thought it looked much better in the flesh. Shame it keeps causing us to lose.
