Week 2 results

NORWICH CITY 1 MILLWALL 2

Macaulay Langstaff bagged only his second Millwall goal seven minutes from time to earn the Lions their first victory over Norwich at Carrow Road since 1968. No points for anyone from this game, as 21 predicted a win for Norwich, with an incredible 15 going for a 2-1 in what was the weeks most prdicted score.

QUEENS PARK RANGERS 1 PRESTON NORTH END 1
Milutin Osmajic's superbly-taken equaliser prevented Julian Stephan making a winning start as QPR boss. A super 6 had this spot-on, and nobody got the outcome. The other 17 predicted a win for QPR.

AFC WIMBLEDON 2 LINCOLN CITY 0
Goals in either half from Matty Stevens and Nathan Asiimwe secured AFC Wimbledon's first league win of the season over 10-man Lincoln. Well done to basher2010 for being the only one to get this spot-on, and a further 7 had the outcome.

STEVENAGE 1 ROTHERHAM UNITED 0
A Jamie Reid goal made it two wins from two in League One for Stevenage. 3 had this spot-on, and another 9 (who all predicted a 2-1) got the outcome.

CHELTENHAM TOWN 0 CHESTERFIELD 2
Second-half goals from Lewis Gordon and Dylan Duffy secured Chesterfield a comfortable victory to maintain their winning start to the League Two season. 3 got this spot-on, and a further 10 had the outcome.

GILLINGHAM 1 WALSALL 0
Bradley Dack proved the difference as Gillingham clinched a win to extend the club's unbeaten run under Gareth Ainsworth to 11 games. 4 had this spot-on, and another 5 got the outcome.

A tough start to the week with Millwall gettting their first win at Carrow Road in 57 years. Nobody was expecting that, but at least all the other games produced a 3 pointer, to give us a respectable 17 in total. For the second week running BFG came up with a top scoring performance, as he had the wins for Chesterfield and Gillingham spot-on, and the Wimbledon outcome, to give him a superb 7 points. After last week he said every dog has its day. Well this one has had another good day. Though he has to share that top scoring honour with Sector4 who also got two 3 pointers, the QPR 1-1 and the Gillingham 1-0, and the Stevenage outcome, to give him a superb 7 points. Best of those to have one 3 pointer was durham_exile who got the QPR 1-1, and 3 outcomes, to give him a decent 6 points.

In the Premier By having the QPR 1-1 spot-on, with a rare draw prediction, former champ concordman takes over at the top from last weeks leader bwildered, who has to settle for second after getting the Chesterfield 2-0 spot-on. Up a place to third is Jorash63, after he had the Stevanage 1-0 spot-on, though it is only on the first to post rule from Sector4 who top scoring performance moved him up six places, and Daniel, who also got that Stevenage 1-0 spot-on. They all in turn edge out thrillseeker on the most 3 pointer rule. Despite getting the Gillingham 1-0 spot-on, blueeagle drops into the bottom half. Up two places are unitedwhites, who had the QPR 1-1 spot-on, and mfb_cufc, who got the Gillingham 1-0 spot-on. Dropping into the bottom three at this early stage are ghughes11 and RSCOSWORTH, who after just two weeks, is the only one without a 3 pointer in this division, as Lewis_1 got his first Premier league one with the Chesterfield 2-0.

In Division One An excellent start to the season for BFG, that has seen top score both weeks, has already given him a 5 point lead. He has been fast out of the blocks the last two seasons, and then faded. He will be hoping to keep it going for 38 weeks this season. Holding on to the other automatic spot is noah4x4, after he had three outcomes, but only on the most 3 pointer rule from durham_exile, after his decent week moved him up five places. After getting the QPR 1-1 spot-on, gerry_us moved up three places to fourth. Just two outcomes for Tropical_Us, and he drops to fifth. It is status quo for NME_cufc, as he remains in the final play-off place, after having the Stevenage 1-0 spot-on, though only on the first to post rule from wessex_exile, who got the QPR 1-1 spot-on. The final 3 pointer in this league came from basher2010, with that good Wimbledon 2-0 prediction, and that was enough to take him off the bottom.

THE TABLES (12 out of 280 played)
(Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post)

Week 1 results

BRADFORD CITY 2 WYCOMBE WANDERERS 1

Bradford made a winning return to League One after a six-year absence with this victory. A massive 11 got this spot-on, in what was equally the weeks most predicted score, and a further 4 had the outcome.

DONCASTER ROVERS 1 EXETER CITY 0
Luke Molyneux's 88th minute penalty ensured Doncaster marked their return to League One with a victory, in a game they dominated, as Exeter only have a mere 2 shots with none on target. 4 had this spot-on, and another 12 got the outcome.

PLYMOUTH ARGYLE 1 BARNSLEY 3
Tom Cleverley's first game as Plymouth head coach ended in a controversial loss to 10-man Barnsley. Nobody got this spot-on, and only oxfcolu had the outcome. 19 predicted a win for Plymouth.

BARNET 0 FLEETWOOD TOWN 2
Barnet's seven-year wait for EFL football ended in defeat, as they fail to score at home for the first time since last November. 3 had this spot-on, and a further 4 got the outcome.

GRIMSBY TOWN 3 CRAWLEY TOWN 0
Crawley were given a sobering re-introduction to League Two as Grimsby ran out resounding victors. Nobody got this spot-on, but 16 did have the outcome.

SHREWSBURY TOWN 0 BROMLEY 0
Shrewsbury's return to the fourth tier of English football resulted in a bore-draw, as both sides could only manage a mere 2 shots on target. A final game this week with no 3 pointer, though 8 did get the outcome.

It is good to see all the members from last season have returned again. Thank you all for that, and your kind messages. A shame we have no new members, just a name change with NME_cufc replacing Moor_Pinot.

A tricky set of fixtures to start with, though aren't they all on the first day of the season, but they produced a number of decent weeks for members, mainly thanks to the Bradford 2-1, that gave us 11 of the weeks 18 total spot-ons. It was having this Bradford win spot-on, along with the Fleetwood 2-0 spot-on, that produced the weeks top performers. By also getting the Grimsby outcome, bwildered and noah4x4 both got a superb 7 points. But the honour of being the weeks top scorer goes to BFG, as he had the Doncaster and Grimsby outcomes, to give him an excellent 8 points. The other member to get a superb 7 points was concordman, as he got the wins for Bradford and Doncaster spot-on, and the Fleetwood outcome. Best of those to have one outcome were thrillseeker, Jorash63 and Tropical_Us, who each got the Bradford 2-1 and three outcomes, to give them all a decent 6 points.

In the Premier The superb week for bwildered on his Premier debut, takes him to the top on the first to post rule from concordman, who also had a superb start. Just a point further back are thrillseeker and Jorash63 after their decent weeks, with the former having the advantage on the first to post rule. The top half is completed by blueeagle, who had the Bradford 2-1 spot-on, and Daniel, who got the Doncaster 1-0 spot-on, as they are alo separated by the first to post rule. Heading the bottom half is ghughes11, as he had the Bradford 2-1 spot-on. At the bottom, it was not the start Lewis_1 was looking for on his Premier debut. Not a good start either for current champ mfb_cufc.

In Division One The top scoring performance from BFG naturally takes him to the top. In the other automatic spot is noah4x4 after his superb start. A point further back is Tropical_Us, after his decent week. Then it is Madeira163 and Blue4U2, who both had the Bradford 2-1 spot-on, with the former having the advantage on the first to post rule. In the final play-off place is NME_cufc, who was another to get the Bradford 2-1 spot-on. Just losing out on the top six are gerry_us and durham_exile, who both had a good four outcomes each. The final one to have the Bradford 2-1 spot-on was wessex_exile. By coincidence the bottom three places are occupied by the three members who were relegated from the Premier last season.

THE TABLES (6 out of 280 played)
(Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post)

Happy League 2025/26 Week 1 (of 38) - Deadline Saturday 2nd August 15.00
at 15:21 16 Jul 2025

A warm welcome to all members old and new, as the Happy League is about to start its 23rd season. Recently there have been a number of new members to the site, who are posting on a regular basis. If any of you are reading this, I would like to take this opportunity to say you are all very welcome to join. It is a free to enter competition with prizes. Details of the four competions are below.

There is no need to register for the coming season, as any member who took part last season, will automatically be registered for this season. Just post your predictions to confirm your registration. For any new members thinking about joining, you can join just by posting you predictions for Week 1 on this thread.

The four competitions are:-

Happy League This is a 38 Week season. Fixtures will be 25 weeks of 6 games, and 13 of guest pick 10 games, making 280 fixtures in total. There are two divisions, with 12 members in the Premier, and all other members (including newcomers) in Division One. Three to be relegated from the Premier, and three promoted from Division One (the top two automatically, and one from the play-offs). A personalised Colchester United clock for the Premier Champion. The season will start on Saturday 2nd August. For any newcomers it is 3 points for a correct score, and one point for a correct outcome. Fixtures can be found below.

After last seasons promotion and relegation the two leagues as they stand at the moment are (In alphabetical order):-

Happy Cup This is a knockout competition, with all the fixtures coming from the FA Cup. There will be replays for drawn games. The 1st Round would ideally have 32 members. If we fail to get this, then to have 16 members for the 2nd Round, there will be three member games where required, with the two top scorers going through. The competition will start with FA Cup 1st Round fixtures on Saturday 1st November. The winner will get a personalised Colchester United mug. All details will be in the Happy Cup thread sometime in October.

Charity Shield This is an end of season competition, where the Premier Champion will play the Happy Cup winner in one semi-final, and the Premier runner-up will play the Division One Champion in the other semi-final. The winners to play in the final, where the winner will get a personalised shield.

U'sual Champions League The qualification for this competition will be decided on 29th December (Week 22). Last seasons winner Sector4 will qualify automatically, the other eleven qualifiers will be the highest point scorers over the two divisions on the aforementioned date. The competition will start on Tuesday 10th March, when the Champions League Round Of 16 begins. The winner will get a personalised replica Champions League trophy.

A reminder of a rule, mainly for any newcomers. That is anybody failing to post their predictions four weeks in a row, will be dismissed from all Happy League competitions. There is no need for this to happen. If you are not going to be around to post your predictions any week, just let me know in advance what default score you require, e.g. all 1-0's, 2-1's etc. Anybody failing to post anything at all will receive no points for that week.

Week 1 Fixtures A strange start to the season, with the first week only having fixtures from League's 1 & 2. Some tricky ones to kick-off with, as they all contain teams that were either promoted or relegated last season.

BRADFORD CITY v WYCOMBE WANDERERS
DONCASTER ROVERS v EXETER CITY
PLYMOUTH ARGYLE v BARNSLEY
BARNET v FLEETWOOD TOWN
GRIMSBY TOWN v CRAWLEY TOWN
SHREWSBURY TOWN v BROMLEY

Good luck everybody.

As you say why hasn't Joe MacGregor got a county contract. I see he played for Kent Second XI in 2022, and Glamorgan Second XI the last two seasons. As he has been playing well for Colchester and East Essex since 2017, it is about time Essex took notice.
