Transfer puzzle

Got the cover for CB with Santos signing announcement, subject to int'l clearance.

As for the BBC story, very, well-written article about stuff we already know. Thanks for the link, WR.

Harry Darling : Torn between the Swans and a decision to leave
at 03:14 1 Jun 2025

I agree. I also stated the same a couple of months ago. I totally understand Darling's situation. If a fan wants to get upset, then get upset with the then owner in charge (AC) who didn't get HD signed when he should have (like last summer or last fall).

Oli McBurnie : Swans very much aware of a potential free transfer
at 16:22 20 May 2025

I have always liked OMB but I think he's sincere when he says he's really enjoying life in the Canaries. He would be somewhat of a roll of the dice, imo. I think Montague & Co will be better off looking elsewhere for a goal scorer or two. They've (Swans) made a great start with Widell, Wales, and Inoussa. I'd rather see Darling signed than move sideways with an OMB signing.

Retained List released

Seeing Delcroix's name on the list, but knowing he's a loanee, makes me wonder if the Swans will want to make an effort to get him via a loan or purchase this summer. Did he impress enough? What do you think will happen?

Darling given an ultimatum plus what next ?
at 03:20 10 May 2025

No, now's not the time to play hard ball. Since we've told him that our latest offer is the best we can do (this summer), leave it at that. Also remind him that as he saw at the tail end of the season that Swans are building up to a fabulous 2025-2026 season, and emphasize that it's highly likely that we'll be challenging for a play-off spot, with or without him. However, we'll be in a better position to challenge for a top two automatic spot if he's with us. Tell him if that happens, then we can discuss/review his part in the upcoming season, and re-negotiate his contract on a warranted basis. It may come down to how well the Swans management project optimism for the upcoming season. If he buys in to the optimism, their outlook, their story, then it's very likely he'll sign on.

I agree! We've had a bunch of really good keepers over the years since Fabianski. LV's one of the best in the Championship right now, and am glad to read that he's happy & enjoying life at Swansea!

I very much agree! Fulton is a "wrecking ball", brought in to disrupt the opposition's flow of game. Very important that Swans have a back-up to Franco, who is deservedly the starter for this position on the field. No, I don't think he'll be offered an extension at current wages but since we have him, there's no harm in using him as in relief of other defensive midfielders.

Unfortunately for him, he participated in the Matt Grimes/Martin ticky-tack football mentality that we all despised. Never understood why he was in Martin's doghouse for almost half a season with both Martin and the club trying to make him look like the villain.

On the bright side, he has on rare occasions contributed a goal or two, but blowing up the opposition's counter is his forte.

Championship payments
at 17:21 2 May 2025

I querried ChatGPT the following question: How much prize money will be paid to teams in the EFL Championship for 2024-2025 season?
I received this response: For the 2024–25 EFL Championship season, the prize money and financial distributions to clubs are structured through various channels, including modest league position rewards, television revenue, parachute payments, and solidarity payments. sources: Sporting News, Interesting Football, Edudwar

🏆 Prize Money by League Position
The direct prize money awarded based on final league standings is relatively modest:
1st place: £5,000,000; 2nd place: £3,500,000; 3rd place: £2,500,000; 4th place: 1,800,000; 5th place: £1,200,000; 6th place: £900,000; 7th place: £700,000; 8th place: £500,000; 9th place: £400,000; 10th place: £300,000; 11th place: £200,000; 12th place: £150,000; 13th place: £100,000; 14th place: £80,000; 15th place: £60,000; 16th place: £50,000; 17th place: £40,000; 18th place: £30,000; 19th place: £20,000; 20th place: £15,000; 21st place: £10,000; 22nd place: £8,000; 23rd place: £6,000; 24th place: £4,000

These figures are estimates and may vary based on specific agreements and revenue considerations.(source: Soccerhint.com)
📺 Television Revenue - Championship clubs benefit from television revenue, which includes (As per Interesting Football):
Solidarity payments: Approximately £4.5 million per club, derived from the Premier League's TV deal. EFL TV deal share: Around £2.5 million per club.
Broadcast appearance fees: Approximately £100,000 per televised match.
In total, a Championship club can expect between £7 million and £8 million from TV revenues.
🪂 Parachute Payments - Clubs relegated from the Premier League receive parachute payments to mitigate the financial impact: (per: The Sun, Interesting Football, Edudwar)
First season: 55% of the Premier League's equal share of broadcasting revenue; Second season: 45%; Third season: 20% (if the club spent more than one season in the Premier League). - Interesting Football, Edudwar, Wikipedia, Interesting Football, Sporting News
These payments can amount to approximately £40 million in the first year.
🤝 Solidarity Payments
Clubs not receiving parachute payments are eligible for solidarity payments, calculated as a percentage of the third-year parachute payment as per Wikipedia, Edudwar, & Interesting Football:
Championship clubs: 30% of the third-year parachute payment.
League One clubs: 4.5%.
League Two clubs: 3% .
As per Soccerhint.com, Interesting Football, & Wikipedia
💰 Play-off Final Windfall
The Championship play-off final is often dubbed "the richest game in football" due to the financial benefits of promotion as per Wikipedia, Sporting News, Interesting Football:
Winning the play-off final can be worth up to £265 million over three seasons, factoring in increased revenues from TV rights, sponsorships, and other Premier League-related income as per Wikipedia & Sporting News

In summary, while direct prize money in the EFL Championship is relatively modest, clubs rely heavily on television revenues, parachute payments, and the substantial financial rewards associated with promotion to the Premier League

Yes, I'd prefer Hull as well since it's the longest travel & Hull always seem to compete for the same players as Swans.

at 18:14 29 Apr 2025

According to BET365 right now:

Bristol is favored to win their game with visiting PNE; 1.750 3.600 4.750
Derby is favored to win their game with Stoke; 2.050 3.000 4.200
Portsmouth is favored to lose their game with Hull; 3.100 3.700 2.100
Swans are favored to win their game with Oxford; 1.650 4.000 4.750
WBA are favored to lose their game with Luton; 3.000 3.400 2.300

If the above holds true, then PNE would be the unlucky one!
