It also doesnt mean you should pass up wonderful opportunities should they arise ahead of year 3, as folk can probably guess I can't see this happening with the current manager in place in any of the 3 years |

We'll never know, it may prove to be the wisest move the clubs ever made for decades if it resulted in a win at Wembley in both the cup and the playoffs... its immaterial anyway as we will just let things stagnate until there's no real alternative whilst another season of what ifs whistles passed us. |

It certainly plays a big part yes, Thats only your perception of "better" the football pyramid dictates who is actually "better" we made Boston look "much better" the following game they then proceeded to get walloped by Hartlepool, they're far from special. The whole games changed its unrecognisable from the 90s, all players generally are technically "better" now, im not convinced the end product is any "better" though, id say quite the opposite. |

Their league or none league position more like would probably suggest yes they are worse, we're currently very poor in a really shit league |

Didn't Williams do something at York away one year like miss an open net or something equally as talented, seem to remember Flounders scoring a late winner away at York too many moons ago, unless my memory is playing tricks again |

Wasn't Paul Williams a bit crap too from memory, especially for his size, its all a bit of a blur from that time to be honest though, do remember a few very good players back then though too |

The "performance" only comes under real scrutiny if it leads to a defeat or in our case lethargic defeats, still can't fathom out why/what Rodney has done to warrant a start, hes been worse than poor in the bit parts from what ive seen. |

I'd probably say JM was under more fan scrutiny when he signed Bird than when Hilly brought in COG if we're using a direct comparison, people seem to be losing sight of the fact we're currently playing in an absolutely terrible league and far further down as a whole club than at any point in Hillys reign, without sounding all Oldham we should be sat firmly in the playoffs at worst having watched most of the competition already and the players JM has at his disposal, today was as predictable as day turning to night so much so even at 1.0 up when my son kept nipping in the house from the garden my only question to him was "have they equalised yet". With regards to Ange you just watch them play, shake your head and wonder how many times do you need to belt yourself around your own head to realise it hurts, its just plain weird. |

Still don't remember Hilly doing much resembling having his hand forced regardless of a crowds reaction at any point, from memory he usually did quite the opposite and was very stubborn. You do seem to be a consistently lonely voice when discussing all things JM on here, whether that's good or bad I guess is down to opinions either way. From my own view I think hes very much a Gareth Southgate type of manager with a weird Peps possession obsession, similarly I think Ange at Spurs will fall on his own sword too with his style of play. |

It very much feels like for far too many games this season the team have got in and around the play offs in spite of JM rather than due to him. |

We offer absolutely zero threat going forwards without a decent forward who can hold the ball up and bring the whole team higher up the pitch, we're driving around with the handbrake up a couple of notches again. God only knows how you can't convert a chance like that by Ayinde, jesus wept [Post edited 22 Mar 16:43]

I'd be surprised to see Bird anywhere near the team tonight |

We definitely went "more defensive" in the second half something I did mention yesterday, Oldham did come at us more after half time as obviously they needed to, we could have helped ourselves by not turning backwards so often and putting every man behind the ball, there was an almost identical passage of play when in the first half Barlow who I thought was critical to the way we played, during the first half he received the ball with acres of space ahead drove forwards in the second half he took an extra touch then turned round to find a pass backwards instead. There's a clear improvement in how we've played recenty so massive credit for that and we shift it from back to front much faster too again its noticeable, I just think yesterday was a massive missed opportunity to put a few goals passed whats possibly the worst Oldham side ive ever seen, that's saying something too. |

You're right about Bird and the resemblance to COG, Cairo is a passenger if he doesnt score, his all round play is nowhere near good enough, hes got that annoying skill where he seems to shrink when going up for a header |

Speaking of defence Hogan is rock solid at the back, seemed to get on the end of everything, lovely to have a "proper' centre half who's got a bit of bite about them and loves to do the dirty work. Very good first half just not sure why we went so defensive after half time and just invited trouble, obviously Oldham had to come at us but thought the whole second half's mission was to simply hold on to the 1 goal lead, it was never going to happen. The difference in Bird and Cairo is enormous, not sure the latter won a single header all game, Bird is far too good for this level. |

Very good watch that, just feel he skirted around the main reason the clubs actually skint is the Glazers have and are still currently taking hundreds of millions out of the football club whilst investing nothing back in, its all well and good cutting out smaller outgoings like meals, etc but its a drop in the ocean compared to the amount the Glazers continually withdraw. I dont think its mentioned enough how/why the Glazers ended up with so much control, a fact very much it seems linked to Fergie that always seems conveniently left out. |

From where I was it was never a pen, Hogan who looked class and very calming again ended up with their lad on top of him, thought the ref was terrible for lots of decisions throughout, not sure how some thought the ref let lots go, there was a spell where he seemed to blow up and literally gave everything to the opposition, even Jim was screaming at him. Goals change games as we all know and the finish by Barlow and Hendo both class but the through ball to create again game changing, really like the look of Barlow hes something a bit special, it really works when there's someone higher up who can not only hold the ball up but it also give time for the midfield to get much higher up the pitch, although not much to do yesterday Waller gives the team a great base to work from. Keep it coming Jim, credit where it's due |
