loads of us travelled up the day before in a car/van convoy from the springbok. a mix of ladbroke grove, shepherds bush, white city and hammersmith chaps. we borrowed an old corsair from a neighbour in sulgrave road. 6 0f us crammed into that old bone shaker....left south africa road at about midday. remember both days being sweltering.... we stopped off in kings lynn where one of the kingham twins lived, got there about 4 pm, peter/trevor layed on a good spread and drinks, there must have been 100 of us there. big field outside the house where we had a 20 aside football match. after a couple of hours on to norwich. we parked in a big car park....found a fair ground and got chatting to the local talent then all headed off to that pub on the bridge. went to a couple of night clubs, which did'nt end up too well, and ended up sleeping in the motor in the car park, with one of us sleeping in the boot. had a breakfast in that cafe on the bridge next morning, back in the pub at 11, and eventually off to the match.....we walked to the ground alongside that river, with van after van pulling up and lads pilling out. stood in that packed corner where they put us, like sardines, two huge fences either side of us, it was roasting.....to the left of us was a contingent qpr fans in the seats. good but nervy atmosphere from us.....and the rest is history. |
