There's a lot of rose-tinted glasses going on about football in the old days - the pass back rule to the keeper is a great example.

The "legendary" Liverpool team of the 80s would get a goal (or wait for the ref to give them a penalty if it was taking too long) and then spend the rest of the game passing it a triangle between Hansen/Hysen/Lawrenson/Gillespie etc and Grobelaar. Was boring as hell, so many terrible games to watch.

Changing that rule changed football completely

Fkin embarrassing.

And this is only the first day.

I’d love to go to a Ryder Cup in the US but I don’t think I’d make it out alive having to listen to that all day

The Ryder Cup is pretty much the only time the Yanks play in a big global team tournament against another country/continent at a game they're good at, and they just don't know how to conduct themselves at all.

Come across as complete c--ts every time, either rude arrogant tossers when they win or total spoilt brats if it doesn't go their way

On Paal, where did he end up? Surely he must have found a new club

He’s no way a main striker but I am loving the thought of the likes of Frey, Poku, Smyth and Dembele coming on after the oppo has been seeing off Kone, Saito and Burrell all game.

Suddenly we’ve got physicality and pace in the squad and some great options after all these years. We haven’t even missed Chair after being a one man team for three seasons

Bircham isn’t happy
at 14:57 22 Sep 2025

I pretty much had to force my eight year old son to come on Saturday as his record at Loftus Rd was P5 L5. I spent a fortune on sweets and bribes all day.

At the last defeat he literally sat on the verge of tears on the steps out of the ground and shouted "why do we ALWAYS lose?" to much head-ruffling and "one of us now son" from all around

He came down for school this morning humming Hi Ho Silver Lining and looking forward to telling his mates - he loved all the celebrations and that's what most important not some grumpy old men.

Sutton in Morcambe

Thats two good signings for them I reckon, Sutton looks very fast/confident and has T looked out of place in our first team abd hopefully EDB can fulfil his obvious potential (cos it definitely looks like it isnt happening here)

My mate has lived in the Barbican for decades and has just been told in his block they all have to stump up 100k per flat to replace the (admittedly lovely) full length windows and frames.

That’s not a bill many can meet

Applauding a quality opposition goal

Clapping when the oppo scored was fairly standard when I very first started going to games (1981, Jesus). Any goal, not just a good one

Died out pretty quickly around that time

International breaks

Or just do what they do with the AFCON and say "deal with it, your international players aren't going to be around"

Most clubs have the squad sizes to easily deal with it for a few games here and there these days, and it would give opportunities for the various puppy farms

How did Madsen play yesterday?
at 12:09 14 Sep 2025

Agree with this - the club had two options this year with Madsen. Bin him off and lose a great deal of money on a footballer who clearly has some talent, or persevere with him in the expectation that game time and coaching will give him the confidence and experience to improve his tackling, effort and ability to show for the ball

I’m glad they’ve gone for option two, it could well pay off as he brings something to the table with his passing nobody else in the team has.

Stephane even said in the post match interview he’s got him playing at 6 when it’s not really his position, but if we’re winning games I think it’s worth the risk

I always thought Michael Owen was from near Wrexham.

No idea where I got that from or even if it's true

Charlie Austin on Under the Cosh

I listened to the whole interview and didn’t have a problem with it.

He said many times “QPR was his club”, he’s clearly a bloke who makes his mind up on people and isn’t afraid to knock people he doesn’t like, he laid into Sir Les but that’s a relationship for them to sort out, and I got the feeling he would have been someone you wanted in your team 100%.

As so many have said he’s also the best striker we’ve had since Les himself.

18 goals in the Prem in that appalling side he was playing in was some achievement.

God bless him and I hope he does well there, but Celar was unforgivably bad for almost half a season up front for us - offered literally nothing. The two games before he got injured there was something and maybe he’d finally got the hang of the Championship and was unlucky, but then he re remerged for the start of this season and continued to do fk all.

Watching Kone spend all the Charlton game wrestle hard with his centre back Jones (who I thought did really well) including a flying knee to the chest before scoring reminded me of what a centre forward should be doing.

Celar just seemed like the easiest bloke to mark ever, always three yards away and never ever interested in a battle or fighting for space

Ale Faurlin. For me the perfect example

Proper tackle on him, brilliant in the air, always looking forward, some superb goals, never stopped running.

Those injuries really ended a great player

Norrington-Davis thoughts?

Thought he was alright, but IMO we now have three left-backs and none of them are better than Paal who we showed the door for nothing.
