 | News Comment | Southampton V Portsmouth The Verdict at 12:59:54
A generous verdict Nick. The fact is that the fans were really up for it, yet by half time the team had burst our bubble - normally the job of the away side. The timing of the game could not have been worse, with the international break along with the arrival of the new signings, meaning that 11 individuals took to the pitch against a proper team. This was not the managers fault and we shouldn't rush to judgement. However, watching the centre backs endlessly exchanging passes for no purpose whatsoever was depressing because nothing appears to have changed. The slow, ponderous pattern of play suggests that the ghost of RM has not been exorcised - it seems like years have passed since we've enjoyed fast paced, one touch football. Goal scoring will remain a problem. Why do we not have two class strikers instead of five average ones? Ings has never been replaced, as many others have said here. |

 | News Comment | Southampton Apparently Not Up For Sale At £125 Million at 13:06:28
Completely agree with you andoverpedro. For years it has been the case that Saints, almost uniquely, have been unable to hold onto the best players/staff. Lavia, Livramento and Wilcox to name but three. Somehow this doesn't seem to happen to Brentford, Bournemouth, Brighton and now Forest. On the rare occasions when they are forced to sell, the replacements seem to be of similar quality. We used to be able to do the same. Everything comes down to recruitment in the end and ours has been rubbish. |

At the risk of stating the bleed**g obvious (again), the transfer policy has prioritised quantity over quality, just as it did in the relegation season. Nick, you used to talk up the fact that we have strength in depth, but being able to field two entirely different mediocre teams leads inevitably back to the Championship. I'm not even sure a replacement for RM can prevent this from happening, although his stubbornness means he has much to answer for. |
 | News Comment | Southampton Board Split On Russell Martin Situation at 11:39:18
Of all the personnel to come on board in the SR era, Ankerson has to be the most disappointing. What he did with Brentford pretty much defied belief, meaning that I for one was more than pleased when he was appointed. Clearly whatever gifts he had have deserted him. |
 | News Comment | Southampton At Bournemouth The Verdict at 10:34:25
A bloated squad of average ability has left us in a position where RM has no idea what his best side is. His 'apology' to Aribo for not playing him from the start clearly demonstrates this. Fewer players of a higher quality signed for the same outlay was so obviously the way to go. Instead of which, and just as an example, the manager seemed to think that signing Ryan Fraser was the final piece of the jigsaw, which says it all. Nothing against the wee man, but he did not represent an upgrade on what we already had. The same mistake was made in the relegation season, but the lesson wasn't learnt. |
 | News Comment | Southampton At Brentford The Damning Verdict at 11:01:03
Given that players do not deliberately give the ball away in dangerous positions, the question becomes whether JS, JB and THB can have the errors coached out of them or, in other words, whether they are skilful enough to play the system. What we were able to get away with last season we are not good enough to do in the Prem. and other teams will exploit this weakness relentlessly. RM is proud and stubborn and I cannot see him compromising on his principles. We have the players we need, but not the manager to get the best out of them. |

I may have missed it, but I don't recall any information appearing here regarding the position with Ross Stewart. Is he still injured? Is he likely to recover? Is he part of our future or not? |
