Fair enough. Remember them being a great team that season though, maybe top when we played them. The season they went down was I imagine the same year as the 9 man comeback win when Gouck scored the winner. |

That was against an excellent Donny team that I think went on to get promoted. From memory the pen was missed by Goodison twice then O' Shaughnessy. Years later think Whitehall missed a retaken pen by skying it over the Sandy. |

Got the job done well enough, sloppy at times though in our passing and defending - a better team would likely have punished us. Can't complain but expect Jim will be demanding better. Gilmour ran the show in midfield but Mani was the difference, last season we may have struggled to win that. |

Most pleasing aspect for me today was how solid, assured and confident Whatmuff looks. Didn't have any difficult saves to make but made everything look easy and looked in charge of his box throughout. There were doubts and questions about his age and experience but he plays like he's been around a lot longer, even sitting down to stall the game and take the sting out of Sutton's momentum towards the end, assuming that was a bit of well timed gamesmanship. |

That was similarly bizarre, from Hill's later times at the club - think Hendo at RB and Calvin LB at Peterborough? From the days when you had no idea what team Hill would name, and then try to figure out what the formation was and where each player would be playing. |

Has to go down as one of the worst managerial decisions we've ever seen - maybe not just for us but in football generally. Could see it coming when the team was announced. After one of the best performances in recent memory and such a feelgood atmosphere around the club, to change every single player caused a huge momentum loss and was yet another self-inflicted wound. As a relatively experienced manager he shouldn't be making mistakes like this. This can't be repeated, although last season the error in playing Hogan as a wide CB which cost us v Boston was then repeated in our most important game of the season, so who knows. All basic stuff and I thought that adding Taylor and Done to the staff would provide the additional voices needed to avoid this sort of thing. Squad rotation is not meant to be 180 degree rotation, should be making a handful of changes today and then another handful on Monday and retain some continuity, as I suspect pretty much all the other managers did today. It does nothing for squad cohesion. Wonder how the 11 that started are feeling now, not that the defeat is their fault at all. Whether this was making a statement or trying to keep everyone happy it was disrespectful to the fans and to Brackley and resulted in us losing to a part-time team who are experiencing the same schedule. It also puts massive pressure on the Monday game, where I assume he'll swap everyone again. We may well win but that would do little for the players played today, if none start that game. I reckon this squad is good enough to get promoted, the manager now needs to show he can achieve it. Implementing an A and B team approach is not the way to do it. |

Doesn't feel right to change the team completely for a league game as though it's a cup game. Better to retain a bit of continuity. Would hsve thought the likes of Gordon, Gilmour and Mani could play for example. Almost feels like a passive aggressive statement about the scheduling. |

Shosh v Scarborough, free kick from near the centre circle, insane goal. Wish I'd seen Wakenshaw's vs Halifax - my uncle who had a season ticket at the time and had been a regular since the 60s said it was the best goal he'd ever seen at Spotland. Sadly not recorded on video |

There's supposedly a '3Up' campaign where the NL are lobbying the EFL for another promotion place - I read an article a while back that said they were pushing for it to be discussed at the EFL AGM in June. If it was approved it's likely it would be 3rd - 6th in the playoffs. Hopefully we can sign a solid keeper, tenacious midfielder and a prolific striker this month then we might not need to worry about it. |

Self-inflicted defeat. Coasting at 3-1 and surrendered the initiative by making unneeded substitutions, affecting our shape and immediately making us vulnerable, despite one of the substitutions supposedly making us more solid. Such a shame after working so hard to get into a dominant position. |
 | Forum Reply | TVOS Preview - Rochdale v AFC Fylde at 20:02 21 Apr 2025
Early balls into the box needed, not easy though when we generally have right footed players on the left and vice versa. Lost count of how many times we cut back inside and the attack fizzled out. Gilmour's shot was the only time we looked like scoring from open play. |

First half probably the best we've played away since maybe Aldershot. Second half was starting to look familiar after missing early chances but stuck in there and found a deserved winner. Back 3, Gilmour and Rodney all immense and Barrett's best showing so far, some great saves. Need to push on to finish 4th or 5th and be ruthless Monday - Fylde relegated today. |

Awful news. Not only a club and town legend but became so widely admired across the whole football community and beyond because of the man he was, as shown by the volume of tributes and posts on social media this morning. RIP Joe. |

There will never be any searching questions asked. Great win and performance today against a team on the beach by all accounts (am an exile so wasn't there) but the true tests and big games all lie ahead |

Without Bird we look a bit toothless. Need to get the ball in the box more often - still tend to check back too much. Maidenhead put it in the the danger area more often. Another frustrating watch against a team with inferior players. |

Good point on paper, just need to develop a bit more ruthlessness to become a top side and put games like that to bed. Invited pressure and succumbed in the end, bit disappointing against a mediocre team lacking in ideas. Bird looks the full package - big, strong, mobile and quick with good feet. Great bit of recruitment, as is Kingdon - Van Dijk would have been proud of his turn in the 2nd half that sent two defenders for a hot dog. Sounds concerning about Easty, fingers crossed he's OK and back to good health soon. |

Great to watch - felt like a throwback, attacking the Sandy in the 2nd half with proper purpose, confidence and intensity. The busy schedule actually seems to be giving us energy - maybe play, rest and play again rather than getting too bogged down with training and preparation is helping in a way (obviously allied to a building sense of belief as well). Bird makes a huge difference and the defence, marshalled by Hogan, is looking assured with Kingdon showing maturity beyond his years. Also both the midfield and Waller probably our best in those positions for some time. |

There's too much of an ideological focus to the style of play and formation, it never changes no matter which game or situation within a game. McNulty feels like more of a coach than a manager - a manager would be more pragmatic and shake things up when required. Today and Tuesday were crying out to take off a centre half when bringing on a forward in the second half. |

Good tactical substitutions and game management as well, the sort we often see against us. |
 | Forum Reply | Wealdstone match thread at 19:31 16 Nov 2024
Pitch can't be an excuse and wouldn't be for a team for a team aiming for promotion - need to plan for these sort of away games and have the ability to adapt and get a result. |
