Selling well and buying well.
Employing decent managers.
I’m not sticking up for Russell Martin but continually blaming him for our demise is wrong.
Blame Sport Republic for not getting rid of him sooner and then employing two worse managers.
Russell Martin did his job and got promotion (just), he’s not a Premier League manager.
But then neither is Jones, Selles, Juric, Rusk…
None of these managers were ever going to turn the Southampton job down, why should they?
With the level of players we had last season no one was keeping us up.
It all comes down to recruitment. Managers and players.
To end my contribution on this.
I couldn’t give a shite how Martin (or the other ex managers) get on in their careers at least unlike Hasenhuttl they’ve gone back into management and not sat drawing money off previous clubs. He’s doing it again with Wolfsburg.
Here’s to an enjoyable season for you and a few wins.

I want Southampton Football Club competing in the highest league possible.
The Championship is ‘better’ as we play a lesser standard of team and so should win more games.
No other reason.
Do the Blackburn, QPR, Stoke, Coventry, Hull etc fans still enjoy wallowing in Tier 2?
The VAR quotes, well, if there was VAR in The Championship we would have had 2 penalties on Saturday.
I look at Fulham, Brentford, Brighton, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest and wonder what they are doing that we are not. |

If you watched the Rangers games you’d see he doesn’t play the suicidal football across the back as he did at Southampton.
Results will come in that 2 team division.
Right now they are prioritizing Champions League qualification which is coming thick & fast.
I’d be more concerned about the starting lineup v Ipswich on Sunday than how an ex Southampton manager who was replaced two worse managers is getting on. |

Rangers didn’t take a lot of chances at the back.
Butland (Goalkeeper) used his experience to know when to get rid and marshalled his defence well.
Rothwell was prominent in midfield. |
