NFR: Paul Heaton @ Glastonbury
at 19:41 28 Jun 2024

Just caught Paul Heaton live at Glastonbury (BBC4). Who’s the drummer wearing a Dale shirt 😯?

My first season supporting the Dale; had an innocent 11 year old kid thinking it would always be like this. Home to Orient in August shattered that illusion…😆

Probably counted against Paul Waugh that he’s not a Starmer yes-man as he’s been critical of Labour’s policies (or lack of) in his “i” column 😔

I doubt it. They probably don't do 'news' as it takes more than ten seconds of concentration.

'Good Vibrations' was the theme song when Chris beech was briefly in charge, presumably for the 'Beech' boys connection rather than the quality of the football

"I I Me Me Grab Grab Grab" - brilliant track!

I'll give a nod to "Gimme Little Sign" by Brenton Wood (UK no.8 in 1967)

He was in my year at St. Wilfrid's and Bishop Henshaw. Captained Henshaw's football team for a year or two

Keith Barker anyone? Or was he that bad that we've automatically erased him from our memories?

Some of his later classics:

"Plastic Palace People"
"Montague Terrace In Blue"
"The Old Man's Back Again"
"The Seventh Seal"

Julian Cope owes him a massive of gratitude as well

Back then, the Football League used to give out monthly awards for the best behaved supporters in each division. We won the Div 4 award for September, with Workington second. Inevitably, this resulted in a scrap on the car park behind the main stand after the game. I could appreciate the sense of irony, even though I was only ten years old at the time 😁

Listened to it for the first time over an hour ago and will have to put it in the 'earworm' category. Shades of the Flatmates/Shop Assistants - short, sweet and to the point. 8/10

Happy 49th anniversary tomorrow

Remember it like yesterday. Great end to my first season as a Dale supporter, considering where we started off from with that fantastic run of results starting with the win at Workington on Boxing Day. Think overall fitness levels and the general pace of the modern game might catch a few of them out (sorry, Sir Reg!) but I'd still fancy seeing Graham Smith take on a few left backs

Isn't that the second time we've dumped on Donny in 'Fergie Time'? Seem to recall that Canavan smashed in a late equalizer to deny them two points when they were fighting relegation last time out. Ahh, those golden moments ...

Talking to a Biffo-supporting workmate, their gameplan seems to be to keep it tight in the first half and try to hit on the break, then mount sustained pressure in the second half, so he doesn't expect them to come at us with all guns blazing at the start. Maybe another Bury-style opening from us might take advantage of that.

Just as strange from the main stand. Both Holt & Hendo knew they were offside and made no attempt to get involved with the play, yet the lino flagged and the ref gave the offside instead of playing advantage to Fleetwood (as he did for us in an earlier situation). Baffling

Labour could put a bag of horse shit up for election in this ward and it would still get in. Sadly, I expect to see this point proven in May.
