 | Forum Reply | Is Nourry that bad? at 11:30 10 Apr 2025
This club was a basketcase long before Nourry arrived, you don’t sort that out in one season. Injuries, there’s something wrong there but that’s not down to Nourry. CF position, well that is, but again we’ve struggled in that department since 2015. As for the need of left backs, right backs, they’re two a penny these days, can’t imagine that Cardiff lad would cost much if they went down, they’ll replace them. Keepers fine, need another CB. Centre mid I think had been decent this season and they’ll be here next season. The three behind the CF is on Marti, or more how he sets us up. That is critical. Regards the title of this thread I reckon if he invites Clive round for a chat and a beer this will all die down 😂 |

What a relief! Got home at the 65th minute to see they’d pulled a goal back and crosses raining in one after another. Expected the worst but quality run and pass from Dembele and the type of finish from Yang which, let’s be honest, we don’t really possess in our own squad, finally got us over the line. Loved the celebrations at the corner flag. We’ve actually been more consistent this season than any other season I’ve witnessed, can’t beat any of the top 8, beat virtually all of the bottom 7. That is unusual for us. Don’t think we’ve fielded a full strength side once this entire season. That makes this team very difficult to define. I’m actually more hopeful for next season. Whereas in recent years we haven’t had a bench that can come in and do any kind of meaningful job, now we have. The problem has been they’ve spent too much time on the pitch due to the many injuries. Who knows what goes on beyond the pitch but we need to sort out why we get so many non contact injuries. We know the area we are weak, we have to play a system that’ll suit Dembele, play through him. And god knows we need a reliable centre forward who knows this Division. It’ll probably go wrong but we’re not that far away plus it’ll be another crap league next year. |

6 weeks ago I’d pinned my hopes on Swansea and Preston being over the 50 point mark and on their Easter holidays. That’s unlikely to be the case now. It’s a sad indictment that earlier every year I’m looking down the fixture list for potential beach based opposition to get us out of another hole. |

This is yet another one who’s a decent prospect but just doesn’t fit into the system we are so set on playing. He’s not the modern no 10, he’s an old fashioned no 10. He needs to play alongside a centre forward. We’ve seen him play alone up front and it’s a particular problem away from home, he doesn’t hold the ball up. He’s needs to play facing the goal. Until this trend changes, it would make perfect sense to move to somewhere on the continent. I dare say, he won’t get injured anywhere near as often either. |

Good luck to you mate, hope you’re okay. Hope the club back you all the way. They’re quick enough on the draw if anyone sings the ‘wrong’ song. |

That’s fair comment. Think the real problem is the system we play clearly doesn’t work for any of our attack minded players. Dembele could be a dangerous player in the right team, Morgan was decent but again we’re not using him to our advantage. Andersen has gone downhill this season but in the second half of last season he had players around him where he could do what he does best, pick a pass forward, that option has all but disappeared for him this season and that’s him basically rendered impotent. Whoever is fixated on this 3-1 front line is wearing a blind fold and if that’s also on Nourry then this is a very strange football club. |

Ah I’d forgotten that. In the end, if you’ve employed a manager from the same neck of the woods, you’d assume it was based on him having at least a rudimentary knowledge of the players we’ve brought in. |

That would be a problem. I appreciate the consensus amongst supporters is Nourry has been calling the shots regards transfers but I notice we’ve been bringing in players largely, certainly for us, from what you might call second tier European countries over the last year or so and we’d never really gone that route before. It may be coincidence, but a bloody big coincidence, but didn’t Marti come to town from the very same European leagues not more than a few months before these signings were made. As such, it seems somewhat unlikely that he didn’t play a significant role in these particular signings and there’s been a fair few of them. This brings me to probably our most successful signing in the last year, Morrison. One of the few, possible only signing, from our shores. Does anyone know if he was Marti’s or Nourry’s or maybe even someone else’s recommendation. I have a feeling the scorn for Nourry might not be so constant if we knew the truth. |

Northern clubs going up and Southern clubs by comparison coming down, what’s not to like. Just need to get Wycombe and Charlton over the line and a good late run from Plymouth. |

What I am noticing is when we were doing bad it was all down to Nourry, when we were doing well it was all down to Marti and now we’re doing badly again, it’s all down to Nourry. Logic says it’s not all Nourry’s fault. I’m not convinced Nourry is the problem, the problem seems to be he’s been left to his own devices when he really needs an ex Championship player alongside him to run the rule over his choices. Don’t think we need another DOF, lord knows the last one wasn’t a raging success. We need someone on board who’s an equal to Nourry and not a boss. I don’t know who could do the job but given Kevin Gallen has been having what seems to be a knowledgeable view on what’s been happening, maybe his experience in this league could be harnessed by checking out these players at their grounds rather than over the internet. Believe Gallen would have our best interests in mind and he wouldn’t seemingly become handicapped by any pet project. |
 | Forum Reply | So another game with no striker… at 11:27 6 Apr 2025
Indeed. The big worry was the Board assuming the good run meant safety and thought might as well just get through till the end of the season. We are paying for that now. |
 | Forum Reply | So another game with no striker… at 08:19 6 Apr 2025
Yes, we’re in a desperate situation up front, but if he plays another midget on his own again, I’ll crush a grape. Big Jim up front, high balls, long balls, any balls, just don’t touch the floor with any of them. Four at the back, big shouts of ‘hoof!’ And the ginga ninja screaming ‘to infinity and beyond’ as he leads five midfielders in a charge fit for the Alamo, after that second ball. Passing is so last year, up at em and secure that precious 49th point. |

It was watchable. I’d go as far to say as transfixing. I genuinely couldn’t believe a professional football team could give up the ball that often and still not concede a goal. |

Bloody awful but thought Colback and the defence deserve a pat on the back. I don’t want to hear any criticism of Paal tonight. |

Put me in the fatigue camp. 12000 steps and lucky to find a train seat home, it’s just nice to sit down for 90 minutes. |
 | Forum Reply | Dembele has had a free ride this season at 19:40 4 Apr 2025
I’m not sure it’s him. We have a habit of buying players and having no idea where to play them. Chair has been here since time began but is anyone at the club genuinely 100% where to play him. Excuse me drawing from the old gits football handbook but I give you.. Parkes. Clement McLintock Webb Gillard. Francis Masson Leach. Thomas Bowles Givens. Did anyone have any doubts of who played where and why from day one? Leach maybe but we had Busby Beck Delve and numerous others and you knew exactly where they fitted in. 4-2-3-1 is designed to pull the wool over the eyes of the paying spectator. |
 | Forum Reply | Keepers going short, refs walking tall – Analysis at 08:26 2 Apr 2025
Great piece. Have always thought there are good refs and bad refs but thankfully very few biased refs. Often wondered if we go short because the players are short. Consequently we have our biggest players doing most of the passing when they’d probably suit the more physical aspect of the game, moving the ball onto central midfielders who, again, would probably enjoy a bit more physical interaction, then eventually onto the three tiny tens who are quickly dispossessed by their more rugged counterparts and on it goes. The centre forward, big small slow or quick is left to wonder whether he’ll ever be gainfully employed. Personally, I’d like to see one team, any team, say enough of this. We will have a maximum of two, maybe one player, starting who is under six foot tall. The keeper will kick every ball into the opposition half whereby the intention is not necessarily win the first ball but, most definitely the second ball by sheer physical strength. On the rare occasions the oppo do retain the ball, the six foot backs will despatch ball and whatever happens to be in the way, back into the opposition half, rinse and repeat. From my experience of 2010/11, by the sixty minute mark the oppo will be wilting and any remaining shorty’s on the bench will be invited to deliver the coup de grace. |
