Following a disastrous debut for Plymouth Argyle at home to Barnsley, in which Brendan Wiredu scored an own goal, was partly at fault for Barnsley’s second, got booked for a scuffle and was subbed at half time, he has had to shut down his social media accounts following a torrent of abuse from the local six-fingered freaks. So much so, the club has had to issue a statement telling the yokels to pack it in. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c78zev3qzp7o [Post edited 5 Aug 7:10]

LOL "poplutation" "agrue" - one of your primates isn't pulling their weight But seriously, fair point about the growing population, but probably a stat that could be applied to almost every other football club who have seen attendances gradually dwindle relative to population since the post-war boom (no pun intended). I think the BWA also have to take significant credit for where we are now attendance-wise. |

Over 700 in the end, they were in good voice too, and the attendance was 5,981. This was the 34th season for the U's opening a league campaign at home, and you have to go back to Dick Graham's 72/73 season for a better home crowd (6,083 at Layer Road vs Hereford). Where our first home game wasn't the first league game of the season, we've only beaten that attendance once at the JobServe, under John Ward in 2010 against Sheffield Wednesday. There were 6,011 that day, but probably twice the number of visiting supporters compared to yesterday. All in all, we are definitely moving in the right direction. |

It was posted by football journalist Pete O'Rourke on his X feed, and he's usually a very reliable (and accurate) source on football transfer rumours. Perhaps no one in Luton follows him? |

Amazing goal it was as well, right in front of me, spun on a sixpence, keeper had no chance. It was a terrible first half, though Perry looked very composed. Second half so much better, and it was Danny’s ‘finishers’ that made the difference - Thorn, Read, Akande and Lisbie were influential. Another muppet of a referee, but that’s a given in League 2 these days. |

Great stuff as ever Durham. I’m currently at Hamilton Hall grabbing a beer or two before the train. A few Tranmere supporters, but the place is packed out with people in Oasis shirts. Never saw the attraction myself. I reckon there’ll be 500+ Tranmere supporters, could be on for a 5k+ crowd for today? Edit: quite funny if you know the context, a bloke just walked past wearing a Blur t-shirt. [Post edited 2 Aug 12:59]

Fair play to him, fitness levels off the charts. I would love to see him play at the age of 50, and if he can, reach 400 goals in his career. |

I doubt Lyle will be going anywhere else whilst he's injured, that's the critical factor at play here. By the sounds of it, he's not going to be fully fit (i.e. injury-free) for a fair few weeks yet, and then he's got to work on his match fitness, on top of which we've yet to offer him a contract and he's yet to accept. I'll be surprised if we see him much before second half of September - but I still hope we do. |

Well that was incredible, second best for most of the game, but we battled hard, were resilient in defence, and not helped by an atrocious referee - it's not just they she got decisions wrong, but she overwhelmingly got them wrong in favour of Spain. As I jokingly said to my sister during the game, she'll be driving home with a boot-full of tapas and paella tonight. But when it came down to the wire, Lucy Hampton with two stunning saves and Chloe Kelly with her trademark 'pony prance' run-up saw England through as European champions (again). Well done Lionesses, you did England proud! Edit: Hahaha, I have been reminded it’s Hannah Hampton, not Lucy. You know who you are - thanks! [Post edited 28 Jul 0:36]

Apart from the inevitable glitch with the live stream, not a bad game I thought. Oscar Thorn didn’t fill me with confidence defensively, but I get the comparison with Greg Halford. Bishop had a very good game, and I liked the look of Perry, Goodwin and Akande (hope we sign him). Posh on the other hand spent most of the game alternatively kicking lumps out of us and rolling around like they’d been shot. Ihonvien‘s return was far from impressive, if that was a league game he could have been sent off. Pitch looked good though. |

Quite surprised by that one, thought he’d be here for certain. Not overly concerned though, he wasn’t likely to be a regular starter. |
