The 20-year-old, whose only senior game so far came in March 2010 during a loan spell in the SPL with St Johnstone, joined the Trotters for £1 million from Wolves in the summer of 2009. A Republic of Ireland U21 international, Monaghan-born Connolly plays anywhere in the back four and in central midfield and is currently the reserve team skipper at the Reebok Stadium.
