What I.Saw - Rams Defence & Fielding's Feet Earn Clean Sheet! Sunday, 22nd Jan 2012 13:05 by I.Saw The Rams assured defence kept the Clarets at bay as Clough and his chargers were unable to unlock the door but at the same time managed to keep theirs firmly shut!

Old One-Eye’s Match Report:
Turf Moor, Burnley, chilly conditions and a bitter wind more conducive to kite flying, the Team Bus is unloading and you can’t wait to find shelter.
Inside you look at the roof of the Fishwick Stand and wonder.
In the concourse the hot chocolate struggles to reach lukewarm and you want to hold the Holland’s Pies rather than eat them, even the catering staff are cold and they have the ovens. “Ee by gum it’s cowd” as the locals would say. On the pitch Derby, with white shirts billowing, win the toss and elect to play into the wind, maybe we are hoping the pace of substitute Ryan Noble will come to the fore after the change round. Jamie Ward wears gloves and I don’t blame him one bit. Game underway, Burnley kick off and have the better opening, Gareth Roberts under attack straight away. The Rams look to slow the pace at every opportunity. Frank Fielding a master class in goal kick longevity. We do though play with two upfront, Callum Ball and Theo Robinson working incredibly hard to win and hold the ball in difficult conditions and the increasing common unpunished fouls in the back. Clearances are lofted high and blown asunder, passes fight to reach their target and both sides suffer, factor in a good dose of rain and it makes an awful day to watch football let alone try to play it. It’s niggly too, we howl as a two footed lunge on Gareth Roberts in the middle of the park doesn’t merit even a caution yet Ball catching Ben Mee’s leg after the ball had gone does, especially on the advice of the linesman. Mee is similarly cautioned later on for another innocuous foul Robinson has our first shot on target early in the second half before leaving for the warmth of the dressing room. Noble takes his place and the Sunderland loanee on occasions creates space, looks for the early ball. Not yet on the same wavelength we don’t play it, Paul Green the usual culprit and so opportunities are lost. Teamwork though needs time and our new number 36 should be pleased with his contribution, Green less so. Frank Fielding with the help of his post completes the clean sheet in the closing stages for a deserved point for the Rams.
I.Saw's Man Of the Match. Frank Fielding - Two saves at the death, the second with his feet helped us secure a point.
I.Saw's Rankings: Referee Lee Probert - consistent in seeing very little, he let a lot go and whilst he didn’t favour either team particularly over the ninety minutes the game needed a firmer hand. Less time wasting, bookings for Mee and Ball unnecessary and Duff and McCann got away with minor murder.

Manager's Reaction:Nigel Clough was happy with taking a point from another in form opponent and another clean sheet:"We're delighted with a point. But it's not only the point we're pleased with, but also the manner of the performance and the fact we've got another brilliant clean sheet. It wasn't a negative clean sheet where we were sat holding on, it was a positive one.”"The performance was good, composed and solid throughout the game. Burnley had a few more chances in the first half, but I thought we stepped it up after the break. We bossed the game in the second half today and with a bit better decision-making and quality in our final ball, we could maybe have won it.”"That's some progress because in recent years away from home when we've got a 0-0 we've been the ones hanging on. We're in a very good habit defensively and although we keep going on about it, one goal conceded in six games is a superb record.”"I don't think these players can give us much more than they are doing at the moment, and we just want that to continue because they've been brilliant and everyone's enjoying this unbeaten run - especially the fans.""Frank made a few brilliant stops and the mark of a good goalkeeper is when they don't have a lot to do and then they have to do something, they do it well. He did that today and he's been in good form, as have all the boys at the back.""We've got ten days before our next league game now, at Barnsley, and next Saturday's FA Cup tie with Stoke City will be a good test for us. Given our defensive record of late, it's nice to be going into the game looking forward to welcoming a Premier League team to Pride Park."Next Match:Derby County vs. Stoke CityFA Cup 4th Round3pm - Saturday January 28thPhoto: Action Images Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
