![]() Saturday, 28th Jul 2012 08:18 by Joe Michalczuk In February 1991 I stood on the terraces with my Dad on the North Stand lower and supported Tottenham. Spurs had Gary Lineker and Paul Gascoigne in the team - fresh from their Italia 90 exploits - and quite simply they were my heroes. My dad told me at half time that if I didn't start supporting Pompey then we would leave - from that moment on I never looked back - Paul Walsh became my Gazza, Guy Whittingham my Lineker. It's a story in Portsmouth (minus the 45 minute flirtation with Tottenham) that has been repeated across generations for over 100 years - from the times of Peter Harris to Jermaine Defoe. We're a one football club city - one of the very few left - kids run around playgrounds in Royal Blue shirts - not the red of Manchester United or the sky blue of City.
