Not What We Wanted

This bar, I was told would hold up to 1,500 people. Due to the ongoing arguments between the Swans and the Ospreys, a suitable name for this bar could not be found, therefore the Council had decided to call it The Riverside Lounge.

Great I thought. A bar for real fans at last where everyone of the same ilk could mingle. Even during the week when there was not a game on, some fans could be tempted there instead of their local pub to talk over tactics, team selections etc knowing that all monies paid was going to the club.

The term "lounge" gave the inference of a nicely furnished, comfortable place where you could relax and enjoy a pint in the company of similarly minded people.

The reality however, is somewhat different.

What we have actually been provided with is a sterile whitewashed room which resembles a hospital ward more than a bar or "lounge" with a total of 3 tables and approx 16 chairs for the revised capacity of 400 where the bouncers can't wait to turn off the TV's and kick you out.

The access is supposedly for season ticket holders only. I asked Leigh Dineen back in March whether or not this would be opened up to trust members as well and was promised that he would bring it up in the next board meeting. To be fair to Leigh, he emailed me back to say that there hadn't been time to raise the subject in that months board meeting but promised me that it would be brought up in the next one.

Needless to say I heard nothing after that and Trust members are not allowed in the "Lounge" so what happened there Leigh? Still not enough time to bring it up or are the trust members not important enough?

At the Tranmere game, there were about 200 people inside the "lounge" happily watching the cricket on the giant Tv's when a bouncer came over at 6 o'clock, turned the TV's off and said," right then boys, that's it, out you go!"

Why, is the lager on the concourse £2.50 a pint yet in the Riverside lounge, £2.70 a pint? Please can someone justify this?

Why, today when attempting to gain access to the "lounge" at half time was I asked for a voucher? Apparently, the 1st 400 people in there before kick off had been handed vouchers and only these people were to be allowed in at half time. I was under the impression that anyone with a season ticket could gain entry! Can someone please tell me who in the supporters club/trust agreed to this and why wasn't it advertised before hand?

Finally, what is the point in having a "supporters lounge that a) alienated the supporters, b) charges more for drinks than the normal concourse prices, and c) kicks people out at 6-7 O'clock despite the fact that they are paying over the odds for beer because they are happy to see some of that money go back into the club?
