Now Bates intends to sue
Now Bates intends to sue "despicable" Leeds
Sunday, 28th Jul 2013 05:28

Once again, the lawyers could be sucking the lifeblood out of our great club with the news that Ken Bates intends to sue Leeds United over his sacking on Friday.

David Conn in the Observer revealed today that Bates was fired as club president for agreeing a deal with a private jet company to transport him to and from matches, the deal over three-years reportedly would cost Leeds £500,000.

Given the precarious financial situation the club are in, following Bates's decision to commit to the rebuilding of the East Stand and the mortgages linked to the £13m revamp, it seems a typical outrageous move by Bates' which will enrage Leeds fans up and down the land?

However owners GFH capital were having none of it. Bates, currently enjoying a holiday in Italy with his wife Suzannah was shocked to receive a hand-delivered letter last Wednesday informing him that GFH had issues with the private jet deal.

Just 48 hours later, Bates was sacked. Leeds MD David Haigh issuing a brief statement on the club website.

Clearly this has left Monte Carlo's most notorious ex-pat pensioner livid and considering legal action over what he describes as his "despicable treatment".

Bates has previously engaged the services of lawyers on a regular basis whilst at Leeds, including taking and defending action against former-director Melvyn Levi which reportedly cost the club an astonishing £4m.

However GFH appear to have taken a line out of Bates's book by referring to a "confidentiality agreement" which prevents them from discussing Bates's hyperbole. This was a line regularly trotted out by him during the seven-month saga of selling the club!
