Saints Draw Liverpool
Thursday, 29th Oct 2015 11:31

In terms of quality of the other teams in the last 8 of the Capital One Cup, Liverpool are the second worst draw we could have had, but it is at home and Manchester City aside there is now no one we should fear.

Although technically speaking Liverpool is the second worst draw we could have had, it perhaps shows not only how far Saints have progressed, but also how many of the so called big teams have departed the competition.

Indeed in terms of current League position, Saints are the second highest of the teams still left in the tournament.

So the home draw against Liverpool in the quarter final is not as good as it could have been, but it is not one that we should fear and whisper this around Anfield (and Oslo) but they are more hacked off than we are at the draw.

The game at Anfield on Sunday showed that we have nothing to fear from Liverpool and hopefully by the time the game is played on what will probably be Wednesday December 2nd, we should be stronger still with the likes of Shane Long and Jay Rodriguez back from injury.

Beat Liverpool and the competition could open out for us with the only team to fear Manchester City, apart from that we should fear no one.

Usually when the year ends in a 6 it's a good one for us.

We have been here so many times before. I was at Sheff Utd last year which was one of the worst Saints nights ever. Every time we get a genuine chance the team have let us down. I really how things change this year.

Funnily enough I'd rather be playing Liverpool at this stage than Sheffield Wednesday or Hull. The Sheffield Utd game is still fresh in my memory...
I've seen little from Liverpool this season that worries me, so should be tight

On the way home last night I expressed a wish to draw Liverpool at home in the next round as I genuinely believe it is the best possible draw. Great game in prospect as this will ignite real passion from players and supporters and really light a touch paper under this cup. The Liverpool squad is poor and there for the taking and comparing the two first elevens I think only Coutinho would stand a chance of making our team. The fact that Liverpool are shorter odds to lift the cup than us beggars belief and demonstrates the general hubris that surrounds Klopp's appointment as a panacea to Liverpool's immediate problems. I don't care how good the chef is, you cant put a bucket of crap in the oven and expect to get a souffle.
