Delay's Singer Needs Southampton's Help To Fight Cancer ! Wednesday, 21st Dec 2016 16:38 The Delay's came to national prominence in 2004 when they hit the top ten in both the singles and album charts, now singer Greg Gilbert needs financial help him beat cancer. Although they achieved national fame a decade or so ago, the Delay's never left their Southampton roots, playing many gigs at big and small venues. One of those gigs was to help the family of a local firefighter who had lost his life and they also helped in other causes. Now singer and guitarist Greg Gilbert has been diagnosed with cancer and the treatment he needs is not available on the national health. His brother Aaron a fellow band member has said. The treatment he needs to survive this isn't available on the NHS and can only be found privately in the form of immunotherapy and other breakthrough medicines abroad. Below is a link to the GoFundMe page we've set up for Greg. We couldn't be more aware of how difficult things are financially for everyone at the moment but simply put, we need to raise as much as we can in order to keep him alive. I am desperate to carry on being able to write and release our music together and to have my brother next to me on stage again." But it is more than just about the music, it is about a young family facing losing it's father, cancer is a cruel disease and sadly more and more these days the sufferers are having to raise their own funds for treatment that can truly save them. The terrible news for Greg is that he is genetically incompatible with the only free immunotherapy drug available on the NHS. There are other drugs that would match his gene profile, most notably Avastin for advanced bowel cancers, but it is currently not funded by the NHS. The local music community has already rallied around and in only a couple of days has raised a quarter of the amount needed to help Greg, but now it needs those in Southampton who have not only been touched by Greg & The Delay's music but just want to help someone is a situation that could happen to any of us. I personally don't know Greg although I know plenty of people who do, I know that just a little from everyone will go a long way and could possibly save his life. Share this story so that everyone who knows The Delay's and might want to help is aware. Please go and have a look at his funding page using the link below and please give a little (or a lot) to help ! https://www.gofundme.com/give4greg Photo: Action Images Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
