Time To Enjoy Being A Saints Fan Tuesday, 14th Feb 2017 11:47 This season has seen a lot of supporters venting their fury on social media about everything Saints related from the owner, to the manager via the director of football, certain players and relegation, but now is the time to put that to one side. The win at Sunderland was not the one stop solution to all our issues this season, however it did highlight several things, firstly that the arrival of Manolo Gabbiadini was another piece of the jigsaw and a vital one at that and secondly that there cannot be too much wrong that cannot be rectified given that even after 6 defeats out of seven, this win still put us within 2 points of 9th. Now we have a fortnight in the run up to Wembley with no game a period we can go into with a lot more confidence after the win at the weekend and it is time to forget the moaning for a minute and head to Wembley with a little more confidence and perhaps some positivist, certainly not the negativity that has dragged us down even further than it needs to. Put bluntly whether you are 8 or 80 there haven't been too many times in your Saints supporting life where you have been able to look forward to a major cup final, or for that matter chasing a top ten finish, in fact only 3 years ago we considered the league position we are in today as success. So it is time to focus only on Wembley and to enjoy what we are about to do and that is go to a major Wembley final with the eyes of the country on us, indeed this is our first trip to Wembley for a major final for 38 years, more than half of those going to the final probably weren't alive for that game back in 1979. Most of us have enjoyed relatively few periods supporting Saints where we have been in within a whisker of a major honour, in fact that can be quantified as 1963, 1976, 1979, 1984, 1986, 1987 and 2003. Those were the only season in the past 90 years since we lost to Arsenal in the FA Cup semi final of 1927 where we have reached a semi final of a major competition, so this season is only the 8th season in nearly a century that we have been within shouting distance of a trophy. So that being the case why should we want to sour the experience by spending too much time moaning about the negatives of this season, lets concentrate, for the next couple of weeks at least on the positives and enjoy the moment. Certainly in that same period we have had many more seasons where we actually had something genuine to moan about and I for one would have been quite happy in virtually every season out of the 45 I have been going to the match to be in the position we are in now rather than the one we were actually in in that time. So the message is simple, lets get behind the club, get behind the manager, and get behind the team, we cannot change anything between now and Sunday week, we cannot sign new players and we cannot miraculously cure those who are injured, so let us realise that and concentrate on what we can change and that is the atmosphere that has surrounded the club for much of this season, it might just help us win the trophy. So history shows us that occasions such as these are rare in our lifetimes, so why spoil them by negativity, lets go and enjoy the day out at Wembley win or lose, after all when the final is over we will have plenty of time between then and the rest of the season to moan about our pet hates.
