Swansea City Cup Game May Be Played Behind Closed Doors Tuesday, 21st Dec 2021 13:52 Southampton fans intending to travel to Swansea to see the FA Cup 3rd round game between the Swans and Saints could find that they are unable to go to the game after Wales announced a ban on spectators at professional sports events, Saints travel to Swansea City on Saturday 8th January for a 5.30pm kick off, but as it stands at the moment it looks like they will be unable to watch the game after the Welsh Government announced a total ban on spectators attending all indoor, outdoor, professional and community sports events in Wales from 26 December. The Welsh government said restrictions would be reviewed regularly, adding: "Crowds will come back as soon as possible. We want everyone to be here to enjoy their favourite sports." "Sporting events over the Christmas period are one of the big highlights of the year. Unfortunately, the new Omicron variant is a significant development in the pandemic and could cause a large number of infections. "We need to do everything we can to protect people's health and control the spread of this awful virus." This casts serious doubts on the game going ahead with fans present although it will be reviewed regularly with cases rising it looks unlikely the ban will be lifted before the game that is due to be played in a little over 2 weeks time.
