Southampton Publish Retained List Monday, 9th Jun 2025 15:59 Saints have announced the players who will be staying and therefore by definition who will also be leaving St Mary's read of for the full list.
Kyle Walker-Peters, Joe Lumley and Adam Lallana are all out of contract this month and have not been named on the retained list.
Southampton's full retained list is as follows:
First-team players retained
Cam Archer
Adam Armstrong
Joe Aribo
Gavin Bazunu
Jan Bednarek
Armel Bella-Kotchap
James Bree
Ben Brereton Diaz
Shea Charles
Welington
Tyler Dibling
Flynn Downes
Sam Edozie
Ronnie Edwards
Mateus Fernandes
Ryan Fraser
Taylor Harwood-Bellis
Joachim Kayi Sanda
Ryan Manning
Kuryu Matsuki
Alex McCarthy
Paul Onuachu
Aaron Ramsdale
Jay Robinson
Juan Santos da Silva
Will Smallbone
Jack Stephens
Ross Stewart
Yuki Sugawara
Kamaldeen Sulemana
Charlie Taylor
Nathan Wood

This is not to say that all of these players will be in the squad for next season, almost certainly a number of them will be on their way, it would be nice to see the likes of Aaron Ramsdale, Mateus Fernandes & Tyler Dibling playing for us next season, but the chances of just one them staying let alone all three is unlikely.
Likewise their are a number of players whom the club have named as retained, but who they most definitely would want to see move on, Tall Paul Onuachu, Armel Bella-Kotchap amongst probably half a dozen more.
Interesting names in the squad are Jack Stephens who I was under the impression is now out of contract, having signed a two year deal in August 2023, it could be that there is an option to extend that deal if certain criteria are met and it could be that either the club or player are exercising that right.

One new name is Juan Santos da Silva, the Brazilian has spent 2024/25 on loan at Goztepe and done well in Turkey, he could well fill a spot in the first team.
One player who still has two years left on his contract, but is not on this list is Juan Larios, that would tend to suggest that he may well be in discussions with the club to cancel his contract, or that he is considered a U21 player at present rather than a first team squad member.

32 is too many I can easily identify 7 to go out of that taking us down to the required 25 but you can also add under 21's such as Dom Ballard I thought he may have been named anyway

The young players mentioned here all had first team appearances last season, so I’m not surprised that Larios and Ballard are not mentioned. We will surely sign more players to suit Still so I expect at least ten of these to go, maybe more like 12..

Thats Quite a list. Was hoping Jack Stephens would not appear on there, pretty disappointed that he does. Squad should easily be cut to say 25 even with comings and goings. In my opinion Bazunu, Manning, Fraser (who seems to be out in the cold), Diaz, Taylor, and ABK (who is not wanted) could leave the squad without any impact.

BigbadBarry, the release of McCarthy and Smallbone would have an impact: a huge sense of relief that we'd finally got rid of them.

Hi all. New user here - but long time reader of the site. By my counts, we have a MASSIVE squad 'available' to Will Still, including the 'youth', we have: GKs Aaron Ramsdale, Gavin Bazunu, Alex McCarthy + Ollie Wright, Josh Jefferies CBs Jan Bednarek, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Jack Stephens, Ronnie Edwards, Nathan Wood, Armel Bella-Kotchap, Joshua Quarshie + Joachim Kayi Sanda, Zach Awe, Nico Lawrence LBs Welington, Ryan Manning, Charlie Taylor, Juan Larios RBs Yuki Sugawara, James Bree CMs Flynn Downes, Shea Charles, Will Smallbone, Joe Aribo + Joe O'Brien-Whitmarsh, Cam Bragg, Romeo Akachukwu ACMs Mateus Fernandes, Kuryu Matsuki LWs Kamaldeen Sulemana, Sam Edozie, Jay Robinson, Ryan Fraser + Daouda Traore, Will Merry RWs Tyler Dibling + Moses Sesay, Victor Udoh, Sufianu Silah Dibaga (?) STs Ross Stewart, Paul Onuachu, Cam Archer, Adam Armstrong, Ben Brereton Diaz, Juan Santos da Silva + Dom Ballard, Princewill Ehibatiomhan (?), Baylee Dipepa, Nicholas Oyekunle (?) That's a BIG squad, already! So obviously all depends on who is sold .... or loaned out. But we look a bit light at RB, RW & ACM still ... although some players are versatile and can 'fill in' at different positions.

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process. What’s the excuse going to be today Steve – shocking pitch, faking head injuries, Mexican banditry or some other bit of sour-grapery bullsh*t? Derby County Polls |
