Damion Downs Left Off Koln Pre Season List As Southampton Move Nears.
Tuesday, 8th Jul 2025 10:29

Saints pursuit of FC Koln striker Damion Downs look set to come to a conclusion very soon after the USA striker was left off the list of players returning to the club for pre season training this week.

sportwitness.co.uk are claiming that Down's move to the South Coast is on the verge of happening, they report that Kold published a list of players who were returning to the club for pre season training yesterday and also at a later date, Down's name was on neither list.

They quote the German media, express.de say that Koln aren’t expecting him to return to the club and this is a clear indication his sale to Southampton is close to being finalised.

Sky Deutschland state the 21-year-old’s sale to Will Still’s side is ‘imminent’ and that he’ll travel to England as his medical with Southampton is scheduled for Tuesday. They say that Championship side are offering Downs a contract until 2029 and FC Köln €8m in fixed fee plus €2m as potential bonuses.

On the face of it, this looks a done deal and seems to be only being held up due to the strikers involvement for the USA International side where he came on as a substitute in their 2-1 defeat to Mexico on Sunday.

No idea if he’s the answer, his goal tally isn’t staggering. But it’s good to see we are having early success with our targets in Quarshie and Downs, if he does indeed sign.
Need to rid of a few more really soon so we can bring in what we need for some sort of pre season. There’s a lot we can sell on without compromising our squad strength and losing the ones we want to keep.

How does a player like this even get onto the Saints radar? Did MoPo give us a recommendation?
Here's hoping he is a massive success.

Downs may be coming into a side with a couple of the experienced names who he can partner up with. Assuming that we lose one of AA /or/ BBD, we will still have Stewart and perhaps even another yet unnamed / unsigned striker.
With the Spanish tour and a couple of friendlies on the books - expect Will Still to build his strike force because we will need a LOT of goals to get back upto the Prem.
