Training Camp In Spain Will Reveal Will Still's Thinking For The Season Monday, 21st Jul 2025 09:14 Saints travel to Spain for a training camp this week and will play another two closed door friendlies, but the new Saints boss has stated that his squad will be smaller than it has been so far and this will indicate what his squad will look like for the season. So far Will Still has used 27 players in the 3 behind closed door pre season friendly games and that does not include 5 players who have either been on an extended break after International duty, injuries and new signing Damion Downs. Speaking to The Daily Echo Will Still revealed that he will take a reduced squad to Spain. “Based on injuries and niggles, we are going to check the numbers, but we are going to Spain with a reduced group of players. “We want to start working towards the games, the competition, and it’s important that you get to week four, where the real, real stuff starts." Asked if this will indicate his chosen players, Still added: “That’s what we have decided to do. The message will be pretty clear once it goes out there.” Saints take on Segunda División CD Castellon at 10am UK time on Wednesday, before rounding out the camp against La Liga Espanyol on Saturday with the same kick off. With a squad numbering over 30 at present, Saints are drastically over stocked in all departments and with Still looking to go into the season with around 26/27 players including a few promising youngsters such as Jay Robinson, that means around half a dozen players will need to go in the next 6 weeks, if we are to free up a few spaces for new arrivals. So we wait with baited breath to see who travels to Spain and whether the team selections will give us a big clue as to who will stay or go.
