The Swans won’t hurry the player with so much natural talent

This evening we have news on Swansea City midfielder, Melker Widell. The Swedish international who signed for the Swans in January before being loaned back to his club AAB. (Aalborg BK) then in the Danish Superliga.

Since his arrival back in Swansea in the summer Melker now twenty three has had to settle into a completely different environment plus find his feet at a club with far bigger expectations and standing than his previous employers. Earning a fair amount of exposure upon his transfer to the Swans he made his international debut in March for his country. Many believed he was first team material but those that read these pages will know we stated that he wasn’t being seen as an immediate replacement for any of the vacancies in midfield. As an exceptional talent in Denmark the Swans moved quickly to secure his services in January, unearthed by then head of global strategy, Adam Worth he now holds the keys to the Swans immediate future signings as head of recruitment. That is expected to remain the case for some while.

Again something we reported when Sporting Director, Richard Montague was relieved of his duties along with two other members of the recruiting team, things now seem to have settled down after the initial reports and speculation. Quite clearly if you don’t do your job you get moved on, and that’s exactly what happened in the minds of the clubs majority shareholders, Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen.. You can read our last report on Adam Worth below, and indeed the shock departure of Montague. This report came about after ridiculous speculation by Wales On Line on Worth’s presence at the club and his real ‘secret’ role within the Swans. They were clearly also looking to expose him and get closer to him regards information. Foolish and desperate reporting. Our report deals with that as well.

Swans head coach, Alan Sheehan hasn’t hidden from the issue stating recently, “He will get there. He's not there yet. He's got things he needs to improve on like every player”

There are no current injuries to report to any of the clubs new players bar the slow rehabilitation of Ricardo Santos who had a nasty injury at Cheltenham in a pre season friendly. He is nearly back in contention. Melker isn’t suffering any injury and utilising our external sources on the player as we did throughout his signing we have been exclusively updated. ‘Melker is really enjoying his time at Swansea, he came at a time when he wanted to step up to a higher level on his football journey, and was fully aware he wasn’t going to be a natural selection every week. There is no question as to his ability and Alan Sheehan (head coach) loves his natural talent and is now working with him and his staff on some needed training specifically. He is now working very hard on his strength and competitive edge so he can display those abilities in a first team Swansea shirt. There is nothing more to it than that’

As it has with other players like Ronald, Eom and Franco this has also been an area to develop. We are seeing that as well now with Malick Yalcouye on loan from Brighton. We would go as far as to say Manuel Benson who featured in last nights win at Blackburn is in that bracket as well. All exceptionally talented players with the added ingredient of strength (resistance training) so much needed in today’s elite athletes.

With that news we can now dampen down the questions as to his non inclusion since the Nottingham Forest League Cup tie. Players are always on a developmental journey and being at Swansea is a part of that process. The Swans take on Leicester City at the swansea.com this Saturday with a 3pm kick off and we will of course keep you updated as the big game gets closer.

If you are interested in reading some of our research reports on Melker there is a very good background report from Sweden from June.

I'm sure he will grow in to his role in time. He has everything needed but adaptation don't always work out overnight!
Talking about adapting, Liam Cullen seems to have found his feet in the new role. Last time out in the Cup game against Notts Forest he got a superb assist for VP. Then again again Blackburn he arrived late to the party, popped the cork the the fireworks got ignited. With our backs again the wall at times the boy's worked their socks off to ensure all three points. It wasn't pretty, in fact it was quick ugly at times but they got the job done via sheer determination! When we will back at the end of the season, it will be games like this that got us where we are (or will be)! If you want to get promoted then it's games like these that show how they got there! I'm the optimist, the glass is half full not half empty right!

Thinking allowed, if Liam Cullen can adapt his mindset to a player maker instead of a striker then it will benefit all in the team. In two games he has an assist and a goal and you can't ask for more than that. However, knowing Cull's he'll want to do better than that because that is who he is!
