![]() Wednesday, 28th Jul 2010 23:10 Central defender Danny Swailes has been named as the clubs new captain for the forthcoming season following the departure of Johnny Mullins to Rotherham United. Mullins was handed the captains armband during the course of last season by former manager Gary Ablett, after fellow defender Michael Raynes was sold to Scunthorpe in February. With right back Mullins moving to Rotherham on a free transfer this summer, manager Paul Simpson had to decide who was going to replace him as the new leader of the team. Danny’s age and experience meant that the decision to hand him the captains armband must have been pretty straight forward for Simpson, as there is no-one else in the squad at the moment who comes close. Swailes has of course already captained the team during his short career with Stockport as he stood in for Mullins when he was out injured towards the end of last season. Danny is a natural leader as he also captained former club Macclesfield Town during his time at the Moss Rose.
