Very little was given to the people, or to benefit the people. Again, to reiterate, the only people with high standards of living were the elitist party members loyal to Saddam/Gadaffi etc...

Well it's clear that you're seeing things through blinkered glasses. Missiles hit populated areas?... My cousin is a Royal Marine. I also have two close friends who are in the Welsh Guards, and a further friend who is a Royal Engineer.
Do you want to hear something interesting? From people who have actually been there and experienced it? The enemy combatants intentionally hide among a populace and engage our troops, with the intention of civilians dying as a result. Al Qaeda will force themselves into compounds owed by families under the threat of death, and will await our troops.
Modern war has changed and western countries have developed (and continue to develop) technology to make warfare more accurate - with the main aim of minimising civilians casualties. But as you well know - war, when ever this has taken place and whoever is fighting, will be subject to accidental collateral damage. This is unavoidable in war and is unfortunate. But when you see a hostile force not subject to the warfare conventions that we ourselves are bound to (such as codes of conduct and rules of engagement), then they effectively have a chess board where all pieces can move like queens.
Do I also need to remind you that the majority of civilians deaths in Iraq, Afghanistan etc, has been the result of car bombs and terrorist activities.
And another thing that's interesting, you claiming our troops are bad guys. Our troops who are following orders from our government, and are simply trying to stay alive in order to see their families once more. You saying these deserve to die?
One of the guys mentioned above was injured just prior to the British withdrawal, whilst trying to minimise the possibility of civilian casualties, whilst also trying to engage Taliban who had just run into a village compound. He was injured when an RPG fired from the compound hit the wall behind him. They were forced to hesitate and delay an attack on the compound until they could be sure there were no civilians who could be harmed, and during this time one of our brave soldiers was killed and two others injured.
