The rats would have added to the flavour of a good scrumpy - not so sure about a curry.

Found this photo online, unfortunately not dated, has to be the late 60's early 70's I would think, it would have been there some years before that, must be one of the first, if not the first, Indian Restaurants in Swansea.

The Burlington was where the Halifax bank is now. Copper grill was on the Kingsway a few doors up from Park Street if i remember. Though on another note, anyone remember the 'Ten Hong' bottom of picton arcade onto Oxford street? Could get a 3 course meal, soup, chicken curry/rice and an ice cream for £1.99 at lunchtimes.

Wasn't there a Japanese restaurant at the bottom of Picton Arcade onto Oxford Street too?

I remember one in the uplands in the mid 70s which had Neville Meade as security before he turned professional.

Wow! i remember that. It's actually at the bottom of Dillwyn Street (the beginning of West way now), and on the right side of the picture would have been the old Oxford Street school. Next to the Bombay grill was the Singleton Cafe, the Swans players would go there for their lunch.

Oxford St school was on the left. The building we can just see in the photo on the right is The Singleton pub.

Not an Indian eatery, but can anyone remember Bob's Cafe at the back of the shitty arcade in Wind St? It was next door or next door but one to J T Morgans motorcycles & near the Duke pub (roughly where Walkabout is now).... late 70s early 80s. It was a real dive but Bob did the best burgers & hot-dogs around.

The Mark2 came out in 74, and the quadrant opened in 79 meaning those buildings were taken down in 78. so yeah, your not far off. I attended Oxford St school 75/77 and they were still standing when i left.

Used to buy spare parts for my very first car from there, a Viva HB. £25 it cost me.

And next door to that we're the first houses on William St. My grandparents lived in the first one, a one up, one down with a lean-to kitchen and outside toilet. I can smell it now, a mix of town gas and sterry milk. They were demolished in the mid 60s and rehoused in Sketty Park. Luxury in comparison.

Handy with a machete too from what people used to say.

What was the one in St Helens Road where Lal the waiter used to work?
[Post edited 17 Aug 2016 19:31]

I'm sure that was the Anglo Asian, a group of us lads used to go there after a night out in the Rank. Meat Curry, whatever that was 😳 . Didn't Lal also work in the Curry House in the Uplands before that?

The 20p extra was well worth it because you were then pretty certain that you got chicken.

The Anglo Asian was a case in point with their meat curry. Fondly known as the Anglo Alsatian.....
