I would have thought any type of driving regardless of what it is needs a test of inconsiderate or careless applied to it in any collision situation.

A couple of years back a video of a motorcyclist tragically losing his life was made public (with the family's approval).
A helmet camera showed him doing c.80 mph on a 40 mph road (they may not be the actual speeds but he was well in excess of the legal limit).
A car turned across his path which caused a collision and ended the guy's life.
Now, he was speeding but the driver was also charged with something (dangerous driving or driving without due care and attention probably) because it was deemed he / she could have seen him coming and should not have tried to cut across the carriageway. | |

The idiot on the motorbike was doing about 100 mph and had been overtaking multiple cars at ridiculous speeds until his luck ran out, his family then went/agreed to putting the video out to raise awareness, something along the lines of ''look out for idiot motorcyclists''.
The poor bugger in the car was done, most thought it was very harsh judging by comments after newspaper articles etc, can you see a bike at that speed when you look to see what's coming ?, if you do see a bike miles back in the distance can you gauge that the idiot on the bike is doing 100 mph ? and should you be held partly responsible for crossing the road with a bike miles back in the distance and for not realising that a bike is travelling at not far off twice the speed limit, I think I read the car driver [never had an accident, young family, job at risk due to losing licence etc] just did not see the bike.
Briefs know the law and no doubt advise what they think is the best course of action, I would not have had admitted guilt if I was the car driver in that circumstance and if they had jailed me I would have been right round to the dead bikers family to tell them exactly what I thought after getting out and who was in the wrong regardless of the law of the land. You probably find that MOST cyclist are also car drivers and have paid vehicle excise duty anyway. The fact they chose to use their cycles means there is more space for car drivers. Exceptions to this are under 17s, people who have not passed their test, uninsured drivers and drivers who have been banned. |  |

Why should anyone pay a tax that was abolished in 1937?
Vehicle excise duty, is based on how polluting the vehicle is, my father in law pays £0 ved for his renault zoe.
In my experience most car drivers are considerate when passing cyclists, it's the ignorant ones who don't understand how VED works, who usually also don't know the highway code and are a danger to other road users such as cyclists, motorcycles, horse riders and anybody else not in a car or van.
Most cyclists and motorcyclists are also car drivers and imho it makes them safer motorists | |

In response to Neath Jack's post, I am a very experienced car driver who pays the appropriate car tax and insurance. I am also a cyclist, alternating between bike and car to commute to work, depending on weather, etc.
When I drive, I show the utmost consideration to cyclists, because I know what it's like on a bike.
When I cycle, I am constantly amazed at a minority of idiot car drivers who see nothing wrong in passing me at about 60 mph on a straight country lane without making any effort to move out to give me some 'safety' space. Maybe they think it's a laugh, or macho, or maybe they don't think at all, which is sadly probably closest to the truth.
Maybe they need to think about how THEIR life could be ruined by just a moment's inattention, a bike striking a pothole and veering, a dog running out - a hundred and one other possible causes of an accident in which they plow into a cyclist.
Let's all try and be considerate to other road users, whether we're on a bike or behind a steering wheel. |  | | |
