Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.
You obviously know that there is always a clear strategy for what should and will happen in these eventualities.
Why is the media is adding to the hysteria.
Well of course there must be.
No idea why they are floundering around.
Someone, I assume Raab, must be in charge at the moment. In which case, say so. With a clear media message. I suspect it’s not being helped by infighting and people, sickeningly, jostling for position.
People saying ‘Raab will take decisions’ or ‘the cabinet will take decisions’ or ‘the civil service run everything’ are missing the point a little.
It’s pretty important that we have someone in charge and that everyone knows exactly who that is.
There is usually, surely, a process for determining that in an emergency. Which is where we are at present. And yet the media seem unsure. It’s been over 10 hours since we were told that Johnson is in intensive care and they’re still not sure who has ultimate authority.
Johnson does. If he’s incapacitated or worse there’s a void until someone else is appointed. They can make all the noises they like about Raab “deputising” but other ministers are under no compulsion to follow his orders. This is why the US constitution and it’s unequivocal succession planning is so great in these circumstances.
Gove is now self isolating. Family member with symptoms.
This is a shambles. Surely some of them are being kept quarantined from everyone to ensure they stay healthy.
Jezza will be ready

But there can’t be a void.
Who has the nuclear authority at the moment? Someone must have surely?
Someone must be de facto PM? Or are we saying that we genuinely have nuclear subs sailing around the place with no one authorised to give instruction?

I believe this is more to do with how the Cabinet works.

I doubt the identity of the custodian of nuclear launch codes would rank very high on the list of priorities of most folk at the moment, Lis.
It’s just an example.
We are supposed to be a functioning democracy and yet we appear to have absolutely no idea who is in charge at the moment. If indeed anyone is. And if anyone is whether they are elected or not.
We should be deeply concerned.
Edited to add - I’ve just seen this question is now being asked in the media. Specifically (re defence) and generally. Perhaps we’ll get some answers.

I’ve not encountered anybody voicing that concern in real life though, Lis. As I said earlier power, to all intents and purposes, now resides with senior heads of the civil and uniformed services.
I’d suggest a lot of folk would take comfort in that.
An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

You’d be surprised how many would be more than happy to invest their faith in men and women who have risen in their respective fields through application and proven capacity rather than ‘the democratic system.’
Or would you?

It's interesting that those who told us that Johnson is incompetent now spin a line to say that the country can't cope without him, they need to make their minds up quickly.

Firstly they aren’t in charge, since they have no authority to be in charge. No one, potentially, is in charge. Or someone is that we don’t know about.
Secondly anyone that would be happy with the complete overthrow of democracy is an idiot.

It’s not a case, that I’ve seen, of anyone attributing any particular competence.
It’s more a case of people pointing out that somebody is supposed to be in charge and we don’t know who that is.
