Special diets seem to be getting more and more prevelant. Around 10 years ago there was one hot dinner and one pudding. Today in my place, the options were: 1. Main meal 2. Vegetarian 3. Vegan 4. Gluten free 5, Dairy free 6. Hot and Cold pudding choice. There were around 12 children wearing allergy lanyards because they don’t ear specific foods. The kitchen is also nut free. No requests for halal or kosher but could be requested. |

Seems absolutely ridiculous to me. |

Then that’s really poor. I don’t like that at all. |

I think it's a option every day as opposed to all meat served. Down with me it's available as a 'special diet' so provided for individual children on request. |

Completely unnecessary in my opinion. I’m also very uncomfortable about stories where shops and restaurants have it as their default position without making it very public they’re doing so. I’d like to avoid it at all costs but I’m not sure I have the information to do so. [Post edited 24 Sep 21:44]

You don’t need to have been there to know how mad the 3m figure is. Earlier in the thread I did the maths which is probably the moss accurate way to do it. I’d readily accept that numbers were suppressed and the true number was in the low hundred thousands. Any more than that. Not mathematically possible. |

Do you think the entire population of wales can fit into two bridges, two streets and two squares in London? |

I don’t think they have been or will be taken seriously. It childish, student politics IMO. They’re just playing at it. |

Neither left wing or right wing should be insults. They’re simply differing views. It’s the extremes where the problems are and it’s such a sensitive subject it causes a lot of anger. Both sides using the ‘far’ label is very unhelpful but then, who adjudicates? I’d describe myself as left of centre with some traditional right wing views. I wouldn’t personally describe Nigel Farage as far right. I would describe Tommy Robinson as far right. Others may disagree and that’s fine too. |

I might have missed something but if you can show me an example of where the numbers have amplified by 20 then I’ll certainly comment. The biggest report march was in November 2023 where the figure reported was 750,000. Were there 37,500 there? [Post edited 19 Sep 16:50]

It appears to be untrue. It's good not to belive things that aren't true. On this thread its been shared that the Met announced a 3 million crowd at the event and affiliations of those arrested. Not true. I get the last one as it's perfectly plausable that there were agitators in the crowd, but 3 million? Sorry but if someone believes that the need their algorithms checked. |

Yep. I looked there and on the X feed and nothing. |

Biggest cause of death for children in the US is firearms. Culturally I dint think a gun ban in the US is practical but there’s seems to be some simple things that could be done to minimise risk. Second amendment proponents seem very keen on the ‘shall not be infringed’ bit but not so pushed on the ‘well regulated’ part. |

There’s only twice at sporting events I’ve felt unsafe. Swans away at Luton, and after watching Gloucester rugby (ans I was a neutral). |

I think Reform governing in wales would be the worst thing for them. They’re not geared up for the nitty gritty of politics and could be shown up. A Labour/Plaid coalition would be a dream for them as they could chip away at them in preparation for the next General Election. |

If more guns make you safe, how many guns do you need for it to be enough? Gun owners are statistically far more likely to use their gun on themselves. WR is right that we often make the mistake of thinking because we speak the same language as Americans we’re the same. We’re not. Guns are just one thing. We could never have a Charlie Kirk type here as we don’t have the type of evangelical Christians here that they do in the states. In fact, the majority of British Christians wouldn’t think what he stood for as very Christian at all. I didn’t think he was a particularly good debater. Any time he was really challenged he fell back on what the bible says as the ultimate truth. No point in arguing against someone with faith. Sadly it’ll never happen but I’d love to have seen him going up against Christopher Hitchens, although I feel Hitches wouldn’t have wanted to waste his time. In more recent time, Alex O’Conner would have wiped the floor with someone like Charlie Kirk. [Post edited 17 Sep 17:43]

It's also worth noting that leaving the EHCR might not be the silver bullet some think it is. So far it's 0.73 per cent proportion of foreign national offenders who have successfully appealed against deportation from the UK on human rights grounds and only on 3 occasions has the ECHR has ruled against the UK in cases relating to immigration rules |
