A bit of a non story the EU currently only check fingerprints against passports that currently have fingerprints in their biometric data.
Absolutely no point the EU checking fingerprints when visiting tourists arrive they do not have access to non EU countries database anyway. Plus of course most people have never been fingerprinted.
It will no doubt be illegal under current EU data protection laws anyway.
Do you really think the EU will ban the 69 million visitors trips from the UK. 2019 prepandemic figures. For those who point out the UK population is 67 million a lot of UK citizens make multiple trips to the EU.
Do you think countries like Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Malta etc are going to kill their own tourist industries. They will chose to ignore any stupid laws the EU try to impose just like most countries in the EU have when it suits them.
The EU are introducing changes which will see the finger prints of every visitor from a third country have their biometrics (fingerprints and facial images) taken on arrival in the EU. The system will enable the EU to have better control of their borders and will automatically record dates of entry and refusals of entry making it easier for them to control who comes in and out. It’s fully compliant with data protection.
The only people the EU will keep out are the overstayers, people traveling on false passports, people who’ve been banned from previously entering the EU. Sounds like their taking control of their borders, something we left the EU to do but are failing to do.

Maybe it's because they've got all those 'unelected beaurocrats' running the EU instead of the complete shambolic bunch of utter incompetents the UK 'elected' since leaving.
And they still utter those fateful words 'we've taken back control of our borders'. You'd think by now someone would have had the sense to tell them to stop repeating that garbage. Because every time they do it reminds us of their sheer incompetence.

Still not accepting the democratic wishes of the Welsh voters are you.
The UK and Wales voted for independence from the undemocratic and failing EU.
We voted to leave and that’s it, everyone must accept the outcome of the referendum. What we don’t have to blindly accept without question is the situation we find ourselves in regarding trade deals, trade figures, border control etc etc.
Numerous claims were made which have proven to be wide of the mark. What we cant do is give our politicians a free pass for the poor job some of them have done in getting us prepared fof Brexit.
Trade deals, we were told it would be easy - that’s proved to be far from the case. A lot of trade deals have been rolled over and based on the terms we had as part of the EU, a few new trade deals have been agreed but the consensus is that some of them are pretty poor e.g the Australia deal. Truss negotiated the deal and signed it off so she could get the plaudits, but numerous trade groups, third parties and experts are scathing of it.
I am prepared to accept short pain on GDP etc for a long term gain, but at the moment there is not even the smallest flicker of light at the end of the tunnel. When we hear JRM tell us it may take 100 years to see the benefit of Brexit, well that’s complete tosh. Our politicians need to up their game and if they do a crap job they need to be held to account.

Well trade to the rest of the world has increased and trade to the EU only slightly down so Killy's claim we no longer trade with the EU is far from true.

A simpler way of looking at it is to ask is our passport stronger now than it was pre Brexit?
The answer explains all the border issues better than petty arguments about the French being mean.

Funny one this, people like this when the EU are doing it but when the Uk was "taking back control of our borders" it was all down to xenophobia and racism.
Isn't that part of the EU's plan, to stop so many illegal immigrants by recording their biometrics, then passports wont matter. Turn up without ID and they just check your biometrics.

According to latest EU figures 200,000 illegal migrants entered the EU in 2021.

The Welsh NHS would waste any extra money it gets. It receives far more per head of the population but still performs worse that the English NHS. 68,000 people waiting more than two years for treatment in Wales only 200 in England.

The English NHS figures are very good, but it excludes certain categories of patients including the million who are waiting for community based treatments which includes physiotherapist and a raft of other things. In terms of annual expenditure, in the 20/21 financial year there was a large increase in health spending per head in every country in the UK compared to previous years. That year, Northern Ireland spent 3,461 British pounds per head on health, the highest amount compared to other countries in the UK for the third year, Scotland had the second highest spend per person £3,294, England was third highest £3266 and Wales was 4th coming in at £3204.
Given that Wales has the highest proportion of older people (who are much more expensive to treat) amongst all 4 nations, a very large area to service and difficulty in recruiting staff in yo the rural areas its obvious that the situation in Wales is going to be more challenging.
We don’t have a level playing field and it’s like comparing apples with pears do meaningful comparisons are difficult. That said, I’m not giving Drakers or his cronies in Cardiff Bay a free pass - they need to improve the situation in Wales and I’d start by imposing a requirement on the health boards to decrease non clinical staffing levels by 1% (middle managers) via natural wastage etc over the next 12 months and investing that money in clinical services.
Care services need sorting, the amount of bed blocking taking place is enormous.

Two myths in your reasoning the average age in Wales is not significantly higher in Wales than England. The UK allocation per patient in Wales is higher than England the fact that the Senedd decided not to pass the full funding onto the Welsh NHS is a matter for the Senedd.
Around 60,000 Welsh residents are treated in English hospitals mostly for specialist treatment not avaliable in Wales in specialist hospitals in Liverpool, Manchester, Chester, Stoke , Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge and London.
Around 10,000 English residents are treated in Welsh hospitals usually in border areas when the nearest suitable hospital is in Wales.

Welsh health and social care gets roughly 8% more than England so where did that money go if the Senedd didn't pass it on to the NHS?

I’m not sure the English NHS figures can be described as ‘good’.
The A&E figures are a sound way of seeing the pinnacle of the system’s problems - bed blockers due to lack of social care, 6.6 million on the outpatient waiting list, no funding for preventative programs, 8 out of 10 dentists not taking on patients.
It’s really worrying to be at this point - what on earth will the winter look like?

Whens the last time you used our welsh NHS ?
The last time that I used the Welsh NHS they abandoned me for 18 months after suggesting that a mark on my face could possibly be skin cancer.
18 months later ( starting pre covid) after repeated calls to point out that the mark had increased in size 4 fold and requesting the consultant appointment previously promised within 6 weeks I was forced to go private with money that I couldn't really afford.
A private consultation... biopsy...lab diagnosis and treatment all carried out within 2 weeks and good news.
No thanks at all to the Welsh NHS for which I pay every month for their services and have done my entire working life.
I have 2 elderly relatives living in Swansea worked all their lives who have had to cash in approx £12,000 each out of their already meagre pensions being in so much pain in order to go private for hip operations after being put on minimum 3 year lists for the op on the Welsh NHS that you appear to be so gushing in your praise of.
I find it hard to believe that anyone could possibly be impressed that elderly decent life long contributors to the NHS now have even less money out of their raided pensions to live on in retirement than they even had before because of the failings and appalling service of the Welsh NHS.
Personally I'm scared stiff of getting ill under the Welsh NHS.
Never mind, as long as they can treat the medical conditions of people in other countries using my own and other British taxpayers money in the aid budget instead of treating those contributing then abandoned thats the main thing I suppose?
Delighted to see also that certain contributors to this forum have managed to receive better treatment than myself although my thoughts on giving more pay to the organisation that let me down so badly grinds just a bit to be honest.

Back to topic ….
Brexit is still a disaster .. 🇬🇧
Sounds like good news a few Japanese companies sending their goods direct to the EU rather than via the UK clogging up our roads and infrastructure.
Bet you missed the good news that from 1st January 2023 the UK will be reducing or stopping altogether import duties on good from 65 of the Worlds poorest nations. Can only help to increase global trade and bring prosperity to these countries. While in the protectionist EU this was not allowed.

I waited 5 years for a hip replacement, had it last year aged 54..
I was also misdiagnosed by a gastroenterologist who missed that medication was making my liver bad, fortunately a few years later another, much better specialist (thanks Dr Ch'ng) caught it before it became life threatening, but only just.
On the other hand, one mistake they made tuened out to be a very good thing, personally. I was misdiagnosed as having Rheumatoid arthritis, my company medically retired me, gave me my pension straight away and sent me home. When I was told i didnt have that, I went back and told my old employer who simply said, it's done now, enjoy it!
The staff do their best but they are let done by really bad management that goes from the wards all the way to the Senedd which s where the real incompetence shines!

The weather is a factor but after we left the EU the government amended the regulations on discharging sewerage in England allowing the discharge of untreated waste. One of the reasons given at that time related lorry driver shortages, but the rule change was never reversed and is still in place almost a year later. The water companies have had plenty of time to source adequate stock and we should not be dumping sewerage into rivers and the oceans.
