.

The solid, physical, driving, confident, assured CB we need to Unleash Grimes and Downes of their overly defensive CDM/CB duties. And kick on, in so many ways.

Fisher - Darling - Grimes-Downes - Ntcham-Pato - Piroe

A winning spine. With Oba's pace, and Joseph's pace and endeavour; Christie's confidence; Kyle's confidence, maturity and know-how; Cabango's ambition; Manning's guile and utility; Bennett's back up.

We don't need O'Reilly, unless Pato's off.

He would be a fantastic addition, a solid centre half with pace is hard to find.

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

Swansea are finding out it is a buyers market. This is great if you have cash. O,Riley and Darling for £2.5m great. The trouble is Swansea cannot find buyer for any of its out of favour players as no one has cash.

If The Owners were cute they cold take a punt and hope it becomes a sellers market in the future.

Some Championship teams are struggling with PFF perhaps because players they sold for £10 previously now go for £2.5m Jamal Lowe and Connor Roberts for example. People who complain abut the £11m fee for Rodon are not in touch with reality.

Wise sage since Toshack era

Somebody mentioned this morning that Joe Rodon’s cash is coming, any ideas ?

Didn't we borrow against the future Rodon instalments recently. I just wonder if he moves on the instalments need to be paid up or can you owe money on players you no longer own.

Final two payments from Spurs of £2.75M each are due in 10/22 & 10/23 but the club did the finance deal with the Aussie bank (Macquarie) to borrow against those payments up to the full £5.5M.

The charge was registered at companies house back on 19/12 so would assume funds are readily available just not sure what they are/were planned for - could be that everything went on pause when we went back behind closed doors (we drop circa £450K per home match with no crowd) but I’d have thought we’d have some flex now crowds are back in. Otherwise we have some deeper issues!

I know very little about this Darling guy.

What type of defender is he then? Old style, quick, ball playing etc!?

I agree with the OP but still say we should release Grimes to a club more suited to a Glen Hoddle type player (for 15 million ish). We could speed up play in the middle of the park when the handbrake is disengaged

Each time I go to Bedd - au........................

.

Darling is a late developer. Failed to cut it early doors at academy level where technically more gifted lads were preferred. Came good later on when the focus was more on physical attributes that could cut it in Non-league / League 2. Gone were the technical types, and in came the bigger brutes.

He's clearly kicked on massively, across all aspects of his game. Excelled on live tv recently, a proper commanding presence, confident to receive deep and thrust forward from the heart of defence. Strikes me as Downes-esque in many ways.

A possible needle in the haystack we so need.

Put Cabango in the middle of the defence and let gim play like he did in the unders before Cooper knocked the skill out if him and you have what is described in the op

.

That's the thing, the main thrust of this thread is the key missing link - neither Cabango nor any of traditional CBs are deemed good enough to play the Darling role.

With Cabango there, our CDM/CMs would have to drop too deep and play the tiki taka sideways stuff just inside the half way at best. Which gets us nowhere fast, as witnessed to date.

A proper Darling could be transformational.

You've yet again been found wanting with you perennial Daps stab in the dark.

Daps - no substance, no style. Always, a proper failure.

Watch this space, Darling In soon (only if we cant get what we demand for Piroe, with Piroe demanding a move......)
