Labour always suffers when there is no unity
at 23:29 2 Apr 2025

Deficits have to be cut. I accept I have to pay more tax and council charges are going to go up. People are worried in Wales. Some just worried enough to find a job somewhere. Gardening, litter collection, security guard working at Amazon etc.

Dependency rates have rocketed and clearly got out of control. Wales new Senedd leader has to accept the harsh facts and buy into Labour policy. It is designed to reduce the burden on our descendants.

Dodging these issues and evasion is not good enough.

Parallels with Routledge.?
at 13:54 31 Mar 2025

It seems to me this guy might have parallels with Wayne Routledge. Extravagantly talented but largely unfulfilled.

Wayne was out of reach fro Swansea but because of a lack of care found his mojo under Brendan and Laudrup and was on his way to the benefit of Swansea. Some players just take time.

https://www.3addedminutes.com/sport/football/arsenal/best-player-arsenal-academy

Marcus Edwards who another written off early and now fighting for a £10m deal at Burnley.

I regard Routledge as a Swansea great.

Vipotnik hits the ball very hard
at 18:22 29 Mar 2025

Jan Vipotnik is a really good prospect at 22 and there is interest in him quite rightly. Six goal so far and a presence. I hope the club continues to develop him.

If the midfielders give him space in the box he hit the ball like a rocket. An old fashioned player in the mould of Shearer. He will never be as good as Alan of course but definitely one to be optimistic about.

Fans will hurl abuse at Mellier but that was a hell of a hit. Bony esq

Young Swansea player in international action

Historically with a low player numbers Cymru have struggled to provide strong squads at all levels. It was unrealistic to expect a lot of wins. However they have done very well recently.

Why are food banks a bad thing?
at 12:32 19 Mar 2025

This will be a controversial topic perhaps but what is wrong with food banks? The arguments are as follows.

a). People should be looked after well enough the taxpayers
b) it is humiliating for the users
c) It represents a failure in society

On the other hand.

a) It is an expression of support off society and a good thing. Christian ( or other religions) values being enacted.

b) It is not the job of the Government to feed people or keep people warm other than Children.

c) Full grown adults of sound mind should look after themselves including food banks as a backstop.

With the current mentality of citizens it is no surprise that the Welfare budget has ballooned and stating to drag the whole country down as debt payment eat up too much of tax revenues.

If I was down on my luck I would use these facilities. I w once went into that cafe next to Gwyn Hall which seemed to dish out food for the old folk.

I do not like the word "Austerity" as if it was a choice. There was no option. The policy was forgotten due to Brexit and Covid. The debt and deficit have not gone away. We as a nation are paying huge proportion of tax revenues in interest payments.

Off course the billionaires should be taxed or at least encouraged to be philanthropic. It should be iterative to stop them running away to a tax haven.

This is a very wealthy country where personal property gains are not taxed . The WAG did the right thing in taxing second holiday homes and a visitors tax. Every house you can see outside you bedroom window is owned by someone and worth over £200,000. We have elderly people struggling with cash while sitting on a gold mine. They struggle on benefits while keeping the house for "little Johnny" who expects a big inheritance.

We cannot afford it.

Teenagers in trouble can be guided to good ways
at 11:16 17 Mar 2025

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c2kg1ezyv5xo.amp

A mother took the trouble making son in London back to the family home in Ghana on holiday and then refused to let him come back unless he buckled down. No sign of Papa of course.

In another case another another troubled teenager took his mom to court under the same circumstances and happily lost.

I have heard of horror stories from Ghana from someone else. A bit of discipline to never does any harm.

There should be far more schemes by the authorities to break up the gangs and get some productivity from lost youths and delinquents. It would have to have an element if compulsion as in this case.

Taking youngster from ethnic group back to the family home for a spell would give them perspective and a little status

Some surprisingly low sentencing here. The gains of this business are great and the downside not so much. The short sentences are even not as they are given. Probably halve that quoted.

What a great watch. Plenty of skill on show, Penalty taking needs some work on both sides though.

Good to see a tall lean mean no 9 playing. More meanness required when taking a penalty. A touch of Shearer. Sending the keeper the wrong way is 50:50. and the odds re much higher than that.

Snake oil salesman. New wind turbines for Wales?
at 12:19 13 Mar 2025

https://nation.cymru/news/concerns-raised-over-announcement-that-600m-will-be-in

Wales is getting dumped on by these wind farms particularly off shore ones and all the benefits are going to the Crown Estate and King Charles.

It is being presented as good news for Wales with very few construction jobs and even less permanent jobs.

I am pro Wind and sustainability but Wales has to benefit from the loss of our great scenery with turbines and associated pylons . A project was turned down in the Bychynau bannau (BreconBeacons) recently. These projects will keep coming.

I noted Anthony Wright on the first team bench v Boro and an earlier game. He has clearly been moved up to the first team alongside Sheehan. His teams always played flowing football.

Chris Llewellyn is back with the U21 and a new man with the U18.

I did not see any publicity over this.

USAID ended.
at 17:48 11 Mar 2025

One would think reasonable people would allow for a 6 month transition period or longer to end schemes like this where recipients are partly or fully dependent on them. The brutality applied to the people of Gaza is now being applied to other areas. None of the recipients have a golf handicap or ever go to a golf course owned by Trump.

Some of these schemes mitigate against starvation and disease often partly caused by wars at least partly agitated by imperial powers. No more " soft power" from the USA. China to step in presumably or even worse Islamist charities. An orderly hand over would have been appreciated.

1100 kitchens shut. A state like USA can do better than this even if they feel justified.. Any reasonable manager would give a transition timescale to make alternative arrangements.

Would it come from a NATO affiliated budget

At present the UK military do training and exercises and fully funded by the UK taxpayer. Is Starmer keen on Uk milliary in Ukraine to offset costs and help with the budget . Wil Germany Italy Poland and Spain make a " cash contribution".?

Are UK artificial ski slopes necessary or economic?
at 17:21 8 Mar 2025

I once used the ski slope behind Morrisons at Morfa 30 years ago. I did not enjoy the experience as it was nothing compared to snow. I would consider skiing in Eryri with slopes already under 2-3 degree with man made snow.
I recently skied in Bosnia. The temperature were uncommonly mild -4c to +4c in the resort I went to. The thaw was slow enough with freezing over night to allow them to keep the piste open and create new snow..
