Live music? 09:34 - Jun 1 with 8065 views | RichardO | Any good bands seen recently that people would recommend to go and see, local or any other bands? Level 42 seen last year and they well exceeded my lower expectations, highly recommend. Saw Joe Kelly & The Royal Pharmacy at the Brecon Jazz festival, not really jazz but enjoyed them live. Blues/ Country rock didn't know anything about them.
Live music? on 20:50 - Apr 27 with 1703 views | Dr_Winston | Went to see Letz Zep (Zeppelin tribute band) in the Patti on Friday. Really good show, even if the crowd wasn't all that. The drummer looked quite a bit like Tom "Spiderman" Holland.

Was also there and surprised how small the crowd was especially as they put on an excellent show. I am not an out and out Zep fan but I have a couple of albums on vinyl or cassette from long ago and more lately the Early Days and Latter Days CD complilation but they were excellent value for money. Maybe I have become a grumpy old man but I really cannot stand how people just talk/shout through different sections of songs.
Live music? on 13:38 - Apr 28 with 1635 views | RichardO | Went to see Mike and the Mechanics at the Swansea Arena enjoyed more than expected, Joe Bonamassa show in Cardiff last Wednesday was better than expected and then down to the Patti for excellent Zeppelin tribute.

Live music? on 18:05 - Aug 17 with 1088 views | Scotia | I'm sitting in the amphitheatre opposite the LC2 at the amplitude festival. Some really good music so far, Freefall and siglo 6 with disco panther to come. Totally free, stunning weather but a sparse crowd. Bit of a shame really. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

No idea it was on. Must have been poorly marketed. It's the sort of thing my dad would have wandered along to as he only lives around the corner.

Live music? on 23:45 - Aug 18 with 985 views | RichardO | Went to Ponty fest on Friday night The Shuffle pleasant enough, wandered over to Bar 98 to see unknown to me Black Havana nicely surprised and then enjoyed Junction 47 in the Pontardawe Inn, Saturday headed to Ponty Rugby club it was heaving then over to see The Rift in Bar 98. Forgot there was a day on music in Green Dragon on Saturday and was aware of the event Swansea but clashed of dates. Too tired on Sunday to head to Ponty as planned.
Live music? on 01:15 - Aug 19 with 974 views | Robbie | Only found out over the last few days Rod Argent has suffered a stroke and will not tour again either as Argent or The Zombies . Neither prog rock or Radio 1 listening , but a good inbetween mood to their music . Pontardawe was bouncing over the last weekend . Did not venture into the centre but driving through it looked and sounded good , thankfully no trouble reported either .

Sad news also Dave Edmunds both influences of my music tastes also each generation of music lovers have their music taste influenced by so many inputs, TV, radio, streaming services; but usually each generation has their little niche groups. I had a conversation with younger family acquaintance about paying for streaming services like Spotify or buying CDs the latter which in general is what I do and I don't use the streaming services because generally I don't buy enough music to justify the cost of streaming in a year given that I have so much music in my collections that I don't get around to listening to so why would I want more. The radio still offers a variety of music although my tastes in music have been pushed on from BBC Radio One to Radio Two and subsequently now Greats Hits radio. [Post edited 23 Aug 8:07]

Warehouse I work in someone thinks it is a good idea to broadcast Radio 1 x on the radio , I really despair at the giggling presenters and non stop words bleeped out allegedly called music my eardrums have to tolerate . I am getting old sadly .

Found the chatter a little tedious after a time on the Steve Wright show back in the day and the choice of music was a little saccharine house wives favourites, but then the breakfast show followed the multi host formula and not as entertaining as Steve's show could be at time. Could listen to the breakfast show, defected to BBC Radio Two as it wS tailored to the older listener but even that has been tailored to a slightly younger demographic so off to Greatest Hits for Ken Bruce, do still head back to Radio Two for Sara Cox and Lisa Tarbuck but don't really listen to the radio much now. Vernon Kay trys to be down with kids and really cannot get the balance right in his audience and trying to appear cool . Sarah Cox is a Northen lass , yes we know dear , stop telling the listener at every chance . Lisa Tarbuck is a gem , tucked away on Saturday evening R2 , daytime Radio show i wish that could happen . bit not in the Beebs demograhic audience probably . Radio 2 done away with Alex Lester , another brilliant Presenter on my early mornings .

Became quite partial to Brian Matthews Sounds of the 60s until his death at the age of 88 in 2017 and realised although as a kid I was always playing with the radio on in the background I didn't know as much about music in the 60s as I thought I did, same could be said of the early 70s onwards. Radio Luxembourg with the battery fed transistor radio late evenings listening was a gem . Caught a bit of Chappell Roan on some highlights festive slot the other night on tele . She sounded and performed really good too . Never heard of her before either , Bring me the Horizon also had a good setlist and I did catch up on the name later . Maybe some live music does not have to be via The X Factor or other awful tele talent shows .

As you say the TV talent shows do tend create an artist for the masses and the festival highlights do tend to be were you catch snippets of bands unknown to you but even those tend to be hyped by some presenters. The Old Grey Whistle Test with the quietly enthusiastic Bob Harris had nice performances and some that didn't hit the spot. Caught some song by Chappell Roan which I thought was good but never never follow it up maybe I will now. Edit Popped over to You Tube to check out Chappell Roan and her preformance reminded me at some point I want to get the early Heart album Dreamboat Annie. [Post edited 31 Aug 7:59]

Live music? on 01:53 - Aug 29 with 281 views | Robbie | Whispering Bob allegedly was not impressed by Roxy Music on their appearence on OGWT . Something new and live and he shook his head in disdain. That was it for me with Bob Harris , really think the sad loss of Johnny Walker on R2 and his awesome Sound of the Seventies show will never be repeated by anyone else now . Bob in now turning it into a Counry and Western themed broadcast . That is his passion and going forward route fair enough . I will not tune in though . Bigger picture is Radio 2 presenters are now getting more giggly and immature talking . Phone ins and tell me your stories live on air , covers so many gaps in presenting skills .

Can't listen to Radio 2 anymore utter total nonsense Sarah Cox,Vernon...etc for all mentioned as above, all these daily shows are instantly forgettable. Jo Whiley trying to be all matey with Groove Armada on the phone a couple years ago saying "Hi how you all doing haven't seen you guys for aaaaages" and Dany Cato said we have only met once and that was in 2004 Radio 6 is much better

Live music? on 07:55 - Aug 31 with 164 views | RichardO | The loss of Johnny Walker sadly missed given his sounds of the 70s show and his presenting skills, I do like Simon Mayo's Album Show on Sunday 1300 to 1600 it does appear that the Grestest Hits radio station is targeting the listeners that are being alienated by the BBC Will have to listen a bit more to BBC Radio 6 as I have no doubt there are good new artists about.
Live music? on 02:03 - Sep 1 with 104 views | Robbie | Alex Lester on the graveyard spot on R2 nailed it , be was discared as unecessary to BBC . Audience demograhics change and ages will scores on who has the most listeners . Radio 2 is becoming a giggle fest akin to Radio1 these days . Caught a bit of Sound of the Seventies earlier , but Whistering Bob does does waffle on .
