Budget Speculation - Part Deux 2025

Given a choice between getting a grip on spending or raising taxes, Labour will always raise taxes. It's what they do.

The Ospreys have obviously been the most "at risk" since this whole situation started. Cardiff and Newport signed the WRU deal so they're relatively safe (plus, yes, there's no way they'lll do anything without a team in Cardiff).

It's just then between the two Western Clubs, and Llanelli have both bigger attendances and a ground they can call their own. What The Ospreys have done in the past is completely irrelevant when the plan is about what to do going forward.

It's all rather irrelevant anyway because barring a significant shift in interest by sporting youth, or a complete cratering in performance of the club football teams, Rugby in Wales has about 10-15 years to go before it hits the same level as Rugby in Italy, and the National Team along with it.

The talent is there but it won't want to get involved. Better pay will help, but PR will just increase the volume of political placeholders.

Wales could survive and thrive if it was business friendly. Wealth friendly. Low tax, low regulation. Just come here, set your business up and make yourself rich. But that's unlikely to ever happen.

Yep.

There are 32 MP's representing Welsh constituencies. That's not quite the same thing. All of them will have several people vying to be elected to those rather than to the Senedd. There have in the relatively recent past been Welsh MP's representing constituencies elsewhere. The bottom line is that the best always have and will continue to try to get into the National Parliament first.

Having said that, the Senedd's biggest problem is one that is beginning to be amplified at UK level. Namely the fact that the money is far too low to attract the best candidates. Someone with the talent required to run a country can easily earn significantly more working in the private sector without the hassle and scrutiny of being an elected representative.

Now, the best way around this is to increase the wages but reduce the numbers. Cardiff Bay wants to just increase the numbers, so there will be even more incompetent people getting involved. We'll just end up with loads more Drakefords.

The other major problem Wales has is that people keep voting the same parties into power. Labour have failed on every level since 1999, often aided and abetted by Plaid. Labour have continued to be voted in, and now face being replaced by Plaid. I'm no lover of Reform, but at the very least they represent a disruption to the Status Quo.

If political parties are secure in power, they have no incentive to deliver for anyone other than themselves.

Any Welsh politician with talent is in Westminster, not Cardiff Bay. It's a second rate Parliament staffed with second rate people. Added to that you have the clear and obvious lack of interest in developing the rest of Wales for the benefit of the CF postcode area, something that those purportedly representing those other areas don't care about because they'll still be elected anyway.

Moldova is a poor comparison in any case. It's the second poorest country in Europe by GDP. 85th in the World in human development. Other former Soviet States have rebounded from decades of Socialist oppression far more robustly. Sure, if that's your comparison Wales could do just fine.

Rape gang enquiry
at 08:19 23 Oct 2025

It's a national enquiry where it's a pretty safe bet that most people can guess what the findings would be. It's a national enquiry that the Government are desperate to water down or not have at all for precisely the same reason.

Hundreds, maybe even thousands of compromised local councillors, social workers & Police. Almost a certainty that the overwhelming majority of them would have Labour sympathies. All turning a blind eye to systemic rape, torture and no doubt a few murders all for the sake of "community cohesion".

Idah , looks slow and clueless
at 23:36 22 Oct 2025

Thought Idah did about as well as could be expected with some of the service he had tonight. Showed better control than has has in some other games, with some intelligent runs and layoffs.

I still prefer Vipotnik, but I would like to see what Idah can do in a team playing well and providing him with some decent ball.

You've got some insight that I haven't had so I won't refute it. O'Dea has spent a lot of time working with Brendan Rodgers and we know full well that his preference is for a possession heavy style. Perhaps an increasingly outdated style.

It will be a shame.

Some people have a visceral loathing for him which I find quite odd. He's a likeable guy, certainly not a bullshitter like some of his predecessors. It's just not working out at the moment. And he has to make it work or he will be replaced.

Not great. Better towards the end of the game when we had players who at least wanted to get the ball forward. Widell showed us precisely what we've been missing for most of the season; a bit of movement and willingness to look forward.

We have to pick a better midfield. Galbraith selects himself. I've got increasing doubts over Stamenic so would go with Franco as our DM. Widell has to have a run at AM. Idah wasn't terrible but Vipotnik is just better. Cullen chased and harried in fairness to him.

The lack of face to face assessments since Covid is a big issue. There are plenty of places online where people can learn the "correct" answers to questions on benefit applications and the numbers have spiralled accordingly.

Apart from in rare circumstances such as terminal illness or an independently verified disability, nothing should be awarded without an in person medical assessment.

Indeed. It's really not difficult to grasp.

Those who want to attend Swans games at present already are. The idea that tweeting a bit more often that we're playing QPR tomorrow would add thousands to the gate is mental.

Exactly the kind of case that the benefit exists for. Some scumbag getting a brand new Audi because two of her kids "have ADHD" is not.
