Have we lost in our pink kit this season? 16:21 - Jan 15 with 587 views | PatfromPoole | I'm not sure that we have. Who'd have thought it? Perhaps we should wear it for the rest of the season...... Only positive vibes from now on from miserable critical coont Pat from Poole.

Have we lost in our pink kit this season? on 17:26 - Jan 15 with 517 views | franniesTache | I'm surprised our fans haven't been up in arms about playing in the traditional portsmouth colours of pink. Given that historically pink was their main colour and their team nickname - prior to adopting pompey - of The Shrimps, was a reference to their pink kit, i'd have thought our fans would've had none of it. Also i don't know why they dropped the name The Shrimps as it feels very fitting for them

For somebody who absolutely detests them, your knowledge on them is quite impressive, mush….

Pompey also refers to their traditonal colours, which were Pompadour Pink (pink with maroon trimming). It wasn't an original nickname though as a regiment based in Portsmouth during the 19th century, the 56th West Essex Regiment of Foot, had a Pompadour Pink uniform and were first nicknamed the Pompadours and then the Saucy Pompeys. The football club just copied them. Football club nicknames in that era commonly referred to team colours, like the Clarets, the Lillywhites, Sky Blues etc. https://www.old-merseytimes.co.uk/regtnicknames.html [Post edited 15 Jan 19:43]
