Better-off pensioners to pay for WFA U-turn? 10:07 - Jun 5 with 5378 viewsAnotherJohn

There are rumours that the widening of eligibility for payment of winter fuel allowance will be funded by increasing the taxes to be paid by better-off pensioners.

Things should become clearer soon, but it looks likely that our own Swansea West MP will have a big say in the policy decided. Will some be unhappy that pensioners who saved and made provision for their retirement will subsidize those who did not, or is this just a case of fairness? Will a certain pensioner property rentier be in the frame?

What a selfish attitude.

No just a fact, one not even you can deny, it's the way the benifit/pension system is set up. Indirectly everyone pays even those receiving benefits/pensions through VAT and similar indirect taxes.

Call me cynical but what people say they do and, what they actually do are often 2 different things.

I don't shout about what I do for charity, if anything at all. As was said, it's sanctimonious, attention seeking and also, sad.

That said I don't receive benefits, the WFA, we wouldn't qualify for it anyway. When I did get benefits I was both entitled to AND needed them.

PS, I did once say I was doing something for charity but only because I was asking for sponsorship. Not sure if I posted that on here tho I remember asking Keith if I could.

What I find Cat is the ones who mouth off about charity donations usually contribute less than those who say nothing.
