People are entitled to a defence because some of them might actually be innocent. We've seen what happens when the Police themselves choose who is guilty and who isn't. Your average Copper isn't the shiniest star in the sky. I'd prefer the decision to be out of their hands.
The biggest problem by far is the judiciary. Far too many people of doubtful morals like the Judge who handed down this pathetic sentence. In all cases of violence the default should be the maximum possible unless serious extenuating circumstances exist. |  |
